Duties and Responsibilities
Background:
ESCWA Communication Unit compiles on a daily basis all the clippings featuring ESCWA work/events/activities, in addition to articles of relevance to the different clusters. A periodic analysis of the clippings and the coverage is required as an essential deliverable of the Unit serving as a key indicator of its successful work. A dedicated staff is needed to perform these tasks in a timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Secretary of the Commission and Chief of External Relations and Outreach at ESCWA, the Communications Assistant (Digital Designer) is required to perform the below functions in close coordination with ESCWA Communication staff:
1) Provide assistance to cover in-house events and meetings:
o Compile summaries of content in a format that is tailored to external audiences;
o Gather quotes from speakers;
o Assist in capturing short video messages from experts that highlight key messages;
o Draft press releases and/or new stories based on collected content in English and Arabic;
o Support efforts to archive raw materials post-production and to archive the unit productions.
2) Provide assistance to the social media team:
o Follow up on upcoming in-house events and meetings, liaise with divisions when information is missing;
o Support in maintaining a schedule of upcoming international days and global campaigns that should be reflected on ESCWA platforms;
o Prepare content in English and Arabic for the different social media platforms;
o Research appropriate visuals to be included with posts, edit them to the correct format when necessary;
o Prepare analytics and progress reports following each event, monthly and quarterly or upon request.
3) Perform other duties as assigned.

Deliver media outputs on timely manner and manage social media accounts.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor degree in communication, journalism or related area is required.

A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience in public information work, including photography and social media is required.
Experience in an international setting is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
