Under the overall supervision of the head of the Sustainable Mobility Unit, and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for Active Mobility, Digitalization & Transport Integration and in close consultation with focal points from the Sustainable Mobility team and Communications team the Communication Consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination and timely provision of key sustainable mobility communication products.

Duties and Responsibilities
ORGANIZATION SETTING. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The overall objective of the Industry and Economy Division of UNEP is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities, and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies, practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. UNEP’s Sustainable Mobility Unit (https://www.unenvironment.org/exploretopics/transport) is part of the Industry and Economy Division. UNEP’s Sustainable Mobility Unit wishes to engage the services of a Communication Consultant for a period of 10 months to support some upcoming project related communication activities. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Under the overall supervision of the head of the Sustainable Mobility Unit, and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager for Active Mobility, Digitalization & Transport Integration and in close consultation with focal points from the Sustainable Mobility team and Communications team the Communication Consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination and timely provision of key sustainable mobility communication products. Specifically, the consultant will: • Prepare 1 Electric Mobility Communication Strategy and work plan for 2024 – 2025. • Develop 1 Event/campaign calendar for 2024 – 2025. • Prepare 6 Blog/Press/Web articles on the Global Electric Mobility Project/Sustainable Mobility Project • Prepare 1 Infographics Kit for Sustainable Mobility • Develop 2 Newsletters on Sustainable Mobility • Prepare 1 Slide Deck on Sustainable Mobility • Prepare 1 Media Kit on Sustainable Mobility
Qualifications/special skills
• Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism/communication, urban development, sustainable development, public policy, or a related field is required. A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communication activities including support with communications strategy and workplan creation, development of communication assets such as social media, presentations, fact sheets, blogs, etc and experience of writing communication materials is required. • Prior experience working for the United Nations, or another international organization is required. • Prior experience working with government organizations in the global south is required. • Communication related experience in sustainable mobility (particularly electric mobility) is highly desirable
Languages
• English and French are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required.
