About the position

SERVIR-Amazonia is seeking a Communications Coordinator to lead the project’s efforts to engage stakeholders, build a strong team and consortium, reach decision-makers, and raise the visibility of the Program for improved environmental decision-making.

The communications Coordinator will oversee the development and management of the project’s communications plan, ensuring high-level quality content production with partners, and work closely with USAID and NASA communications teams.

 The position will be based the Americas Hub, located in the Campus of Palmira, Colombia.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and follows up the development and implementation of yearly communications plans taking corrective and adaptive actions.
  • Coordinate permanently with the Project Management Unit (PMU) and supports the day-to-day activities of the Program in their communications needs.
  • Maintain continuous and high-quality relationship with USAID and NASA communication teams.
  • Provide updated impact-orientated content to target audiences on the Program communication channels.
  • Lead and oversees the development and implementation of yearly communications planning and reporting as approved by SERVIR-Amazonia management, USAID and NASA-SERVIR, with Hub partner’s input, based on the communications strategy and Branding and Marking Plan of the Program.
  • Coordinates internal and external communications, in accordance with the Multifunctional Landscapes objective in Latin America of the lead implementing center “Geo-spatial tools for monitoring natural resources and conflict-related variables in the Amazon.–“
  • Support the Program components with communications activities: Data and Science, Gender, social inclusion, partnerships, capacity building, and program management.
  • Support a working group of communications staff from 5 Hub partner organizations and support their leadership in the communications components of activities led by each Hub partner.
  • Interact with the lead center (Alliance Bioversity International – CIAT) Communications Unit for activities related to media and press relations, design of communications products, translations, web site management.
  • Update and maintain all the social media applications on point, coordinating the publication of blog posts on Program activities in different languages (English, Spanish & Portuguese).
  • Issue newsletters in the required languages as scheduled in work plans (Mailchimp).
  • Participate in communications-related events and discussions with USAID and NASA and detect opportunities for improvements and contributions to SERVIR Global communications team.
  • Produce communications reports on a quarterly basis and support production of annual reports and other documents as requested.
  • Supervise communications consultants of the Program (translators, editors, etc.).

 

Requirements

 

Qualifications and requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with specialization or equivalent, master’s degree desirable related to journalism, communications, or related fields.
  • Knowledge and experience handling the following programs: Website (WordPress), Twitter, LinkedIn, Photo album (Flickr), Bookmarking site (Pocket).
  • More than (5) years of professional work experience related to project communications with at least (2) years of relevant professional work experience related to Amazonia, environment, rural development and/or GIS tools.
  • Experience developing and implementing communication strategies and work plans.
  • Expertise and professional experience with communications tools: WordPress, Flickr, social media, MailChimp.
  • Strong analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to tackle complex issues.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and ability to manage and be flexible in difficult and challenging circumstances.
  • Experience working with USAID on communications (highly desirable).

 

Skills and Competences
  • Excellent communication and fluency in English and Spanish (writing and oral) (Portuguese desirable).
  • Strong familiarity with MS Office applications and Google drive.
  • Excellent organizational skills, teamwork, and detail – oriented.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with little direction, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks.

Terms of employment

This is a Colombian national search and will be managed through a fixed term contract of eleven (11) month period, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
