Position Overview

The Communications Officer, Digital Media will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Foundation’s digital strategy. They will manage, create, edit and post content on www.unfoundation.org, the Foundation’s microsites, and social media platforms. They will be responsible for laying out, testing, and sending emails and newsletters, while supporting list management and hygiene.

The Communications Officer, Digital Media will support the Foundation’s digital marketing program, including Google Ads and paid social media campaigns. In this role, they will be expected to maintain relationships with collaborators across the UN Foundation, UN agency digital communications teams, contacts at social media platforms, and external vendors / contractors. He/she will act as a key point of contact for Foundation staff and partners wishing to post or update content across UNF’s channels.

In partnership with the Senior Director, Integrated Communications and Public Affairs colleagues the Communications Officer will help develop, propose and implement plans to build engagement across the UN Foundation’s digital channels, using data and metrics as a guide.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance and optimization of UN Foundation’s digital properties, in line with digital strategy.
  • Manage, edit, and create content for websites, including www.unfoundation.org and campaign microsites
  • Assist with web development process—from concept to launch—for new sections on www.unfoundation.org, as well as new sites in consultation with staff and external vendors / contractors.
  • Analyze and synthesize data to create and present reports for internal and external partners.
  • Handle layout, testing, and dissemination of emails and newsletters, while ensuring CRM and list standards are met.
  • Act as primary contact on day-to-day digital marketing, including Google Ads and social media paid promotions.
  • Help conceptualize, optimize and post content for social media channels.
  • Act as main point of contact for Foundation staff and external partners seeking updates to website content.
  • Be responsible, as part of the digital team, for keeping all UNF digital properties up-to-date and for maintaining security, functionality, and consistency with brand look, tone and voice.
  • Inform standard operating procedures for maintaining and optimizing standard operating procedures related to the role.
  • Assist with event planning and live coverage on digital platforms.
  • Work with the Public Affairs team and campaign staff to keep branding and messaging consistent online and offline.
  • Keep up-to-date on digital communications industry standards and trends and make recommendations.
  • Other projects and duties as may be assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, International Relations or related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in communications and digital media, either in a campaign, political, PR agency, or NGO setting.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team to identify, explore and implement creative digital and social media strategies; make recommendations for content and online tools.
  • Considerable experience with social media and digital ad platforms including Google Ads, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
  • Proficiency in the use of analytics platforms, including GA4.
  • Understanding of email marketing concepts, best practices and platforms.
  • Digital advertising experience
  • Experience with content management systems, in particular WordPress.
  • Proficiency in SEO, HTML, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and video editing software such as Adobe Premiere.
  • Stress tolerance and resilience; sense of humor; highly organized; attention to detail; self-starter; ability to work under pressure with multiple and shifting priorities.
  • Strong skills working in teams and across many types of organizations — team-oriented, problem solver, relationship-builder, and strong inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a very fast-paced, often rapidly-changing environment.
  • General knowledge of global issues and the United Nations system, and an understanding of the UN Foundation mission, programs, strategy and goals.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
