The Communications Department (COM) is the IMF’s center for strategic communication. It develops and coordinates the IMF’s external and internal communications strategy, shapes key messages, advises IMF Management and staff on how best to convey those messages, and monitors and responds to what is being said and written about the institution and its activity.

COM’s Publishing Division (COMPD) produces a wide range of publications, manages the IMF’s public website (IMF.org) and digital online library (eLibrary.IMF.org), and oversees marketing and distribution of IMF metadata and content through various digital platforms and scholarly and commercial publishing channels. COMPD strives to ensure that Fund publications and digital content are aligned with strategic institutional priorities and support the Fund’s larger outreach efforts. Working closely with staff in other departments, the division helps to promote knowledge sharing with both internal and external audiences, including for the preparation, release, and supporting outreach of publications and online content under tight deadlines. COMPD also tracks distribution and use of IMF publications and online content in various digital and print formats.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Publishing Division’s managers, this person will be responsible for the following activities, working in collaboration with others in the division and the Communications Department, with colleagues throughout the institution, and with IMF vendors.

  • Serve as Managing Editor for the Fund’s semi-annual Regional Economic Outlook (REO) reports.
  • Develop schedules and workplans with authoring departments and vendors.
  • Oversee editorial and production processes with authoring teams and with COM, including supervising the editorial review and revision of manuscripts, processing charts and tables for layout, and executing a digital composition workflow for print and digital outputs.
  • Coordinate launch and outreach planning with COM colleagues under tight deadlines.
  • Manage the Notes series, including to work with external vendors and PD digital publishing team on metadata and posting.
  • Manage and/or support other publications and special products, as assigned.
  • Contribute to other divisional and departmental efforts, including matrix work, as needed.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and deliver on several projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in communications, international relations, languages, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, is required. Alternatively, a university degree, or equivalent, and ten years of relevant professional experience are required.
  • In-depth knowledge of and proven track-record in scholarly or commercial publishing.
  • Strong project management, negotiation and influencing, and managerial skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively about shaping clear, high-impact communication products across different platforms and audiences.
  • Strong drive and self-motivation; interpersonal and decision-making skills; ability to communicate persuasively and be a team player; and openness to feedback.
  • Excellent organizational and planning ability, with a drive for results.
