1. Objective of the assignment
The Communications Specialist will develop and implement a new communications strategy and social media presence for WIPO’s business and innovation support activities among others, liaising closely with the staff of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Ecosystems Sector (IES). The incumbent will research and aid in the creation of media products showing how individuals, business, innovators and other public and private organizations can better use intellectual property (IP) and IP-related knowledge products to foster innovation and support business growth.
2. Deliverables
• Document and analyze existant communications efforts in IES and across WIPO related to IP and innovation and devise an appropriate overall communications strategy;
• Contribute to implementation of new communications strategy;
• Conceive, create and sustain new social media presence (starting with LinkedIn) designed to reach innovators,, creators small businesses and other public and private organizations with suitable information on IP and innovation;
• Plan content creation efforts (articles, video scripts, social media posts) showing how individuals, business, innovators and other organizations can better use IP to foster innovation and business growth;
• Create at least 12 items of with with the communications focal points established in the Divisions;
• Liaise with other areas and content creators across the Organization to source material appropriate for a new social media presence;
• Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the communications strategy and suggest improvements following its launch;
3. Reporting
The Communications Specialist will work under the supervision of the Senior Media Officer in the News and Media Division, in close collaboration with the Assistant Director General, IES and colleagues from the Sector.
4. Profile
Education
Essential:
University degree in a communications-related area, social sciences, or other relevant discipline
Experience
Essential:
At least 6 years of experience in external communications for a public or private sector organization.
Excellent portfolio with a proven track record of successful communication strategy examples
Desirable:
Experience in story telling through the creation of high-quality content (written and/or video) and media performance evaluation (KPIs, analytics).
Experience in economics, finance or related areas.

• Excellent research skills
• Excellent ability to work quickly and calmly under tight deadline requirements
• An eye for detail and a high level of accuracy, good understanding of political dynamics and diplomacy

Desirable:
• Ability to work with visual media software platforms, including Adobe Creative Suite (notably Photoshop)
• Knowledge of WIPO and IP
Languages
Essential:
Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English
Desirable:
Working knowledge of French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Arabic
5. Duration of contract and payment
The contract will run for an initial period of 12 months, renewable depending on performance, up to a maximum of 24 months.
Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their remuneration expectations in Swiss francs (daily rate).
