Duties and Responsibilities
With its 192 member countries, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. As part of the Communication Programme team responsible for both internal and external communication, the individual contractor will take responsibilities in the following areas: 1. Community engagement – Maintain and develop the UPU’s social media presence on major social media platforms (X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram). – Plan, schedule and release social media content daily; – Monitor and moderate feedback from stakeholders on the organization’s social media platforms. – Monitor industry- and UPU-related news daily; – Ensure continuous growth of the follower base, reach and engagement; – Monitor social media trends and keep up-to speed with changes, ensuring that the UPU’s social media channels are dynamic, modern, and interactive – Collate and analyze analytics reports on social media accounts and campaigns. – Assist in the development of strategic social media campaigns on targeted issues; 2. Digital communication and online coverage of the Dubai Congress and other UPU events during the year – Ensure digital and social media coverage of the Dubai Congress, World Post Day, and other major UPU events during the year – Coordinate with partners from member countries and the UN System for timely release of social media posts and wide campaign amplification – Support as necessary with production of multimedia materials during the events (video interviews and photography) 3. Content and publications: – Assists in ghostwriting for the UPU’s Executive Management, including the production of speeches, statements, publication forewords and quotes for the Director General, and Deputy Director General when required – Work with content owners and the editorial expert to produce accessible, engaging content (web news, summaries, factsheets, blogs, and interviews) covering the UPU’s work and postal sector developments for publication on the UPU’s website – Contribute as a writer to the quarterly publication of the UPU magazine Union Postale 4. Podcast – Maintain, develop and grow the UPU’s podcast Voice Mail. – Propose ideas for new episodes on the UPU’s Voice Mail podcast, aligning them with the current industry trends, international themes and causes, and main UPU’s and UN events and observances; – Coordinate the preparation and recording processes, including outreach to interviewees, preparation of question lists, and communication with the podcast host; – Ensure the promotion and visibility of each episode through the website, social media, and dedicated newsletters
Qualifications/special skills
University degree (Bachelor) in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations or a related field. Minimum three years’ work experience in communication or public relations with an undergraduate degree or two years’ work experience with a graduate degree is required Work experience in an international environment and/or an international organization is desirable 1. Excellent writing and editing skills for print and digital media is required 2. Ability to think strategically and develop communication plans, shape key messages and identify target audiences is required 3. Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills is required 4. Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, publishing tools, trends and best practices is required 5. Good knowledge of social media analytics is required 7. Experience with audio and video media production an asset is required 8. Good project management skills is required
Languages
Proficiency in English and good working knowledge of French.
Additional Information
– The consultant will be based at UPU Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland with two days of teleworking possible. – The conditions of service are governed by the terms of the consultant contracts of the UPU International Bureau – Experts working under consultant contracts are not eligible to join the UPU pension scheme and do not receive family allowances. – Experts are required to take out, at their own expense, health insurance covering the risks of illness, accident, invalidity and death for the duration of their employment. -All candidates employed by postal entities and shortlisted for this consultancy post must be released by the relevant postal authority. -French is the official language of the UPU. English and French are the working languages of the UPU International Bureau. – Candidates must ensure that they provide relevant contact details so that they can be contacted at any time, to prevent them from being excluded from the selection process.
