Purpose of the role

The purpose of a Compliance and Audit Coordinator position is to prepare NRC Iraq for audit processes and promote compliance and adherence to NRC policies, procedures, and relevant donor guidelines. The following is a brief description of the role.

What you will do

  1. Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  2. Prepare and develop status reports and follow-up sheets as required by management.
  3. Ensure proper filing of all documents.
  4. Promote the idea of improvement of internal control.
  5. Support in project backlogs and audit preparation processes.
  6. Help in the implementation of systems and procedures to improve compliance with NRC’s policies, procedures, and controls.
  7. Help in conducting trainings on topics evaluate the soundness, adequacy, and effectiveness of operating policies, procedures, and controls and monitor compliance in the implementation of NRC policies and guidelines such as compliance, anti-corruption, data protection, and securing supporting documentation. Develop or adapt training materials as necessary.
  8. Support the Risk and Compliance Manager for Spot Checks in Area Offices.
  9. Support implementing partners to align with donor requirements and restrictions.

Specifically, you will;

  • Facilitate external audits from donors, regulatory bodies, and third-party organisations.
  • Provide necessary documents required for audits and responding to management letters.
  • Prepare Ready-To-Audit (RTA) folders for all NRC Iraq projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly update NRC Iraq audit tracker.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities, audit findings, and corrective actions taken in NRC Iraq’s Recommendation Tracker and send regular updates about the findings in the recommendation tracker to related staff.
  • Provide internal review reports, which highlight internal control weaknesses and include recommendations for appropriate action.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees to enhance awareness and understanding of compliance requirements, informed by audit reports and financial reviews.
  • Undertake regular systems reviews and conduct follow up on the job training for NRC offices.
  • Support in reviewing NRC Iraq supporting documentation and provide a report for completeness and compliance with the NRC Iraq mission policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Provide training for implementing partners about minimum donor requirements related to audits such as supporting documentation.
  • Review implementing partners supporting documents regularly to ensure compliance with donor standards and minimise disallowed cost.

 Professional competencies

  • Minimum 3 years of experience from working in compliance, and auditing functions or minimum 3 years of experience from working in coordinator positions in support functions (Finance, logistics) in the humanitarian sector
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Knowledge and skills in the international regulatory context applicable for INGOs.
  • Knowledge and skills in any of the following: safeguarding, accountability to affected populations or Code of Conduct related matters.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Certified or has good knowledge on Internal Audits.
  • Arabic and Kurdish communication skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.

Contract Duration: until 31 December, 2023 (our contract renewal cycle runs from January to December)
Duty Station: Erbil- Iraq with 20% (to different field locations in Iraq: Dohuk, Ramadi, Mosul, Kirkuk)

Salary: G7/S1, According to NRC’s Iraq salary scale and terms and conditions.
