Under the supervision of the TCG Project manager the incumbent will perform the following duties:

Support to CREWS Central Africa project coordination
– Support Central Africa countries and WMO in the project implementation, through the development of documents (Terms of references, technical specifications, agreements, etc) to prepare for implementation;
– Contribute to ensuring the quality of delivered reports by partners and NMHS, through revisions and comments, ensuring regular feedback;
– Updating the project monitoring tool, and project virtual library;
– Identify opportunities to leverage CREWS Central Africa support with UNDRR, Word Bank and other partners;
– Represent WMO in regional and national meetings with NMHSs, project partners, bilateral agencies, etc.

Support the development of agrometeorological services in Central Africa
– Preparation of a detailed plan for the development of an agrometeorological monitoring and forecasting system to produce information considering seasonal and sub-seasonal climate variability in Central Africa, West Africa, and the Sahel region, in collaboration with AGRHYMET and relevant partners;
– Coordinate the development and implementation of an agrometeorological monitoring and forecasting system for Central Africa, that integrates data acquisition, relevant agrometeorological indices, visualisation tool and semi-automated output, in close coordination with relevant regional partners and building on experiences in West Africa and the Sahel region;
– Develop a training plan for national specialists aimed at improving the production of agrometeorological information and its access by end users and support its implementation;
– Coordinate a regional webinar on the development of agrometeorological services in West and Centra Africa, on digital support tools and use of spatial data.
– Carry out other relevant duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Master degree in climatology, meteorology, hydrology, or related fields.
Experience
– Knowledge of WMO regional support to improve development of NMHS and of multilateral agencies to improve national warning services;
– Experience (minimum 10 years) in implementing projects in West and Central Africa;
– Experience supporting the development of climate and meteorological services by regional centers and NMHS in Africa.
Other requirements
– Ability to travel to West and Central Africa.
– Ability to write and synthesize technical and scientific documents.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English and French (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
