Under the direct supervision of the Head of Climate Monitoring and Policy Services Division, the consultant will perform the following duties:

(a) Work with Secretariat for the development of a Strategy for the Modernization of the State of the Climate Reporting at Global and Regional scales;

(b) Provide the scientific leadership for the development and provision of the WMO State of the Climate Reports 2024 to be delivered in March 2025;

(c) Contribute to the WMO update on the State of the Climate report for COP 29;

(d) Work with the Secretariat and KNMI on updating the WMO climate data dashboard, as part of the Strategy indicated in (a);

(e) Participate as a resource person for providing scientific lectures, guidance and training as part of WMO assistance to Members for producing National State of the Climate reports.

(f) Carry out other relevant duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university studies, preferably Phd Degree in climatology, Meteorology or Environmental discipline.
Experience
– Strong knowledge in international Climate Monitoring activities;

– Rich experience in data analysis, statistics and data quality assessment;

– Experience in contributing in the climate reports at national and international levels, and their communication to policy audience;

– Experience in lecturing climate science and related issues such as baselines, uncertainties;

– Good knowledge in programming tools for data analysis and plotting maps and timeseries;

– Excellent knowledge of the recent IPCC reports and findings.

Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.

(Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.)
