DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Chief, Communication and Partnerships of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), and as part of the Communications and Partnerships team of GEO, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
– Create and post engaging and innovative content across all of GEO’s social media channels, which will speak to our target audiences.
– Produce innovative, creative, and engaging videos, photography and infographics.
– Work with GEO programme leads and partners to co-create digital content and ensure that GEO Secretariat content is shared across partner channels.
– Manage the conversation with our followers, replying to messages and reaching out to people we want to speak to. Look for innovative ways to interact with audiences, including arranging live and interactive discussions.
– Follow and keep up to date with social media and digital trends. Closely monitor our audience profile. Develop a strategy that ensures we are delivering the right messages, through the right channels, to the right people, at the right time and look to grow our audiences to deliver maximum communications impact.
– Using appropriate tools, monitor, report and analyze GEO’s social media presence across multiple platforms and produce periodic reports on the performance of social media channels and make recommendations for improvement.
– Develop and support the delivery of innovative social media campaigns to achieve GEO’s strategic objectives and advise/coach colleagues on the best use of online communications.
– Produce monthly status reports and one final report at the end of the consultancy detailing the work undertaken and the key results.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Advertising, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or other relevant field. |

Experience Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in digital media and communications; Experience of working on or delivering digital, marketing/communications campaigns; Strong experience of building and engaging online audiences through social media and writing for the web; Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, aware of the latest digital trends and strong practical knowledge of using digital tools (social media, blogs) for productivity, collaboration and engagement; Excellent editorial skills, the ability to write and edit engagingly in English using the appropriate tone of voice aimed at a variety of audiences; Video production, graphic design; A ‘people person’ and effective communicator with strong customer focus; Ability to work independently and as part of a team, respond flexibly to changing priorities; Proven experience in managing and delivering a demanding workload; Experience of managing social media platforms, including developing channel strategies, audience profiling and community building; Experience developing and delivering strategic campaigns to advance institutional objectives; Experience of using data analytics to evaluate performance of social media channels and campaigns; Ability to work with external partners and manage suppliers and contractors; Direct experience of producing and editing photography and visual media for social media. |

Other requirements Experience in creating infographics; Familiar with knowledge management/eLearning platforms for collaboration and knowledge sharing; Knowledge of other digital tools for content creation. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage. The working language of the GEO Secretariat is English. |
The GEO Secretariat Director may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.

Additional Information:
RENUMERATION: The consultant will be employed full time remotely, but Geneva-based to attend in-office meetings, for 12 months for a total fee of CHF 60,000
TRAVEL: Travel may be required as part of the consultant’s duties and will be paid for by the GEO Secretariat
