IFPRI is seeking an individual consultant to support a systematic review on gender and agricultural mitigation.

Background:

Mitigation action has up to now been largely genderblind. As mitigation programs are rolled out, there is therefore considerable risk that women will be excluded, and that such programs exacerbate gender inequalities in agri-food systems. The consultant will prepare a systematic review around a framework that identifies the key gendered linkages to mitigation in agri-food systems with a focus on a series of gender gaps, such as labor burden, income or nutrition. The review will also elaborate the key constraints to women’s ability to participate in and benefit from mitigation actions in food systems, explore approaches to increasing gender equality in mitigation actions and compile a set of promising approaches or best practices based on the review.

Activities and expected deliverables:

The major activities, along with their specific tasks, and the expected deliverables to be undertaken are as follows:

Model and Data Review:

• Agree with IFPRI on search terms and strategy and indicators
• Analyze downloaded papers
• Develop a draft paper with key results from the review
• Respond to comments on draft and support finalization of study

Deliverables:

1. 1 Search Strategy
2. 1 Draft Paper
3. 1 Paper that considered comments

Duration period: 3 months starting from June 15, 2024 [or receipt of signed contract]

Expected Level of Effort: approximately 20-25 days

Required qualifications:

• PhD or MA with 3 or more years of work experience in the areas of agriculture, political or social sciences
• Demonstrated research expertise on agriculture, gender or climate change
• Proven record of research publication (submission of two sample journal articles)
• Proven track record of successful project deliveries

Preferred qualification:

• Submission of previous systematic review
