TERMS OF REFERENCES

Long Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the UNESCO Montevideo, and in line with the 41C/5 approved programme and budget, the incumbent shall be responsible for supporting the implementation of Social and Human Science Programme (SHS) for the countries covered by the Office and the regional initiatives led by the Programme in Latin America and the Caribbean, in particular:

1. Implement, monitor and report on SHS programmes and projects led by Montevideo Office, including regular and extra budgetary projects and programmes.

2. Ensure knowledge sharing and regular communication and exchange amongst colleagues, peers and stakeholders.

3. Contribute to resource mobilization, partnership development and visibility of SHS

4. Contribute to the strategic positioning of SHS in the Region and the countries covered by the Office, including within the UN.

5. Assume the role of youth and gender focal point in the Office

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Advanced university degree (Master’s) in the field of social and human sciences, political science law, economics, or a related discipline.

Work Experience

• Minimum 7 years of progressive relevant professional experience in the areas of social and human sciences at national and international level.

• Experience in one or more of the following thematic areas: management of social transformations, social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, bioethics and ethics of science and technology, youth and sport.

• Experience in fund raising and resource mobilization.

• Experience in conducting research and producing research papers.

Long Description

• Ability to participate effectively in high-level negotiations with internal and external partners.

• Ability to work in a team in a multi-cultural environment.

• Solid IT skills including knowledge of office software.

• Familiarity with the work and general functioning of international organizations and/or the United Nations System.

Languages

• Excellent/ very good knowledge (written and spoken) of Spanish and English.

• Strong sense of responsibility, tact and discretion.

• Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills, flexibility, drive and enthusiasm.

• Capacity to build and maintain effective working relations with national/local authorities, relevant institutions, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations.
