Under the supervision of the Scientific Officer in Space System and Utilization (SSU) Division, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

1. Update OSCAR/Space database content according to the information collected by WMO Space Programme from the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) Members and other satellite operators indicating the missing or outdated information related to their Earth observation missions;

2. Update OSCAR/Space database based on the other information resources;

3. Maintain the database update request templates and the satellite launch calendar in OSCAR/Space;

4. Maintain the rating criteria of the satellite instruments recorded in OSCAR/Space;

5. Together with WMO Space Programme provide WMO Gap Analysis for space-based component of WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS);

6. Support the analysis of space-based measurement techniques for the measurement variables related to the WMO application areas;

7. Support the OSCAR/Space development roadmap, especially the work linking the variables and their requirement defined in OSCAR/Requirements to OSCAR/Space;

8. Support the analysis of the proposals and suggestions from the CGMS and other users for reflecting the future development of OSCAR/Space;

9. Support testing of the new OSCAR/Space developments;

10. Attending by-weekly meetings with Secretariat officer in charge.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
PhD degree or Equivalent in meteorology, oceanography, earth, physical or natural sciences, or closely related fields.
Experience
10 years of scientific experience in working with satellite instruments and remote sensing, particularly focusing on satellite meteorology applications and especially satellite data assimilation in Numerical Weather Prediction.
Other requirements
Extensive knowledge on OSCAR/Space database and its functionalities, extensive knowledge on satellite instruments and remote sensing, good knowledge on the framework of the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) and Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), understanding of the WMO framework and processes.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage.
