The Global Ecosystem Atlas (GEA) is a flagship initiative designed to map, analyze, and support sustainable ecosystem management worldwide. Using advanced data visualization, geospatial analysis, and multi-sector collaboration, GEA bridges scientific knowledge and actionable policy, supporting global biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and net-zero goals. The Atlas fosters partnerships across governments, international organizations, NGOs, academia, and the private sector to strengthen ecosystem resilience and climate adaptation. GEA aims to mobilize $10 million in funding by December 2025 to ensure its continuous implementation.

Under the supervision of the Chief Partnerships and Communications.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan focused exclusively on the Global Ecosystem Atlas.
2. Identify and engage potential donors, including international organizations, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
3. Write and submit high-quality funding applications, grant/project proposals, and sponsorship pitches.
4. Oversee due diligence processes.
5. Secure and manage relationships with major donors to ensure continued support.
6. Negotiate funding agreements and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
7. Represent the Atlas at high-level donor meetings, conferences, and networking events to promote the project and mobilize support.
8. Work closely with the Atlas team to integrate funding strategies into project planning and execution.
9. Monitor and evaluate the impact of fundraising efforts, regularly reporting on progress and refining strategies as needed.

Key Deliverables:

1. Fundraising Strategy & Implementation Plan – A detailed roadmap outlining key fundraising activities, timelines, and donor engagement strategies to secure $10 million by December 2025.
2. Donor Engagement & Partnership Reports – A minimum of 10 reports documenting engagement efforts with key donors, including outcomes, next steps, and follow-ups.
3. Funding Applications & Proposals – At least 3 high-quality funding applications submitted to major philanthropic organizations, corporate sponsors, and government agencies.
4. Secured Funding Commitments – A minimum of $10 million in secured or committed funding for the Global Ecosystem Atlas.
5. Final Fundraising Performance Report – A comprehensive report summarizing fundraising efforts, key lessons learned, donor relationships established, and recommendations for sustaining financial support beyond 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
A university degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Fundraising, International Development, or a related field. A Masters or higher degree preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, resource mobilization, or strategic partnerships with a strong track record in securing multi-million-dollar funding.
Other requirements
– Exceptional writing skills required for developing successful project proposals.
– Exposure to climate, nature, and environmental sustainability agendas, with an understanding of key global funding trends and donor priorities.
– Strong network within international philanthropic organizations, government agencies, international organisations, development agencies and corporate donors.
– Experience of working at both public and private sector entities, across multiple geographies.
– Excellent grant-writing, proposal development, and business development skills.
– Proven ability to design and implement successful fundraising strategies.
– High-level negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
– Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
– Experience securing funding from major international donors and such as the UN, World Bank, EU, or large philanthropic foundations and investors/corporations.Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms and sustainable development funding.
– Strong analytical and presentation skills.
– Ability to engage with both private-sector, international organisations and government donors.
– Understanding of donor compliance and reporting requirements.
– Ability to draft and review legal documents.
Languages
Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage.
