Under the supervision of the project manager the incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. Advise on the representation of land surface for flood forecasting in selected areas of Burkina Faso.
– Assist on verify the Lidar-based Digital Elevation Model (DEM) developed for urban pilot areas in Burkina Faso;
– Provide suggestions on possible DEM post-processing at required locations with critical road crossing structures near to flood vulnerable communities;
– Collaborate with developers of urban flood forecasting systems in Burkina Faso to evaluate the represented vulnerable urban areas and the generated flood impact maps.
2. Engage DGRE on GIS analysis.
– Coordinate revision sessions with DGRE technicians to engage them in the verification process and analysis of DEM and flood impact maps;
– Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Master’s degree in geographical information sciences, hydrology, hydraulics. |

Experience – Knowledge of lidar data processing for the construction of hydraulic 2D models. – Experience in modelling, hazard maps and analysis of the impact of flooding in urban areas. – Knowledge of the Burkina Faso context (geographical and institutional). |
||
Other requirements – Sense of responsibility, flexibility, maturity of judgement, initiative, and ability to work independently and in a team. – Ability to write and synthesize technical and scientific documents. – Ability to prepare and deliver pedagogical training. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of French and English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of WMO would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |

Pay Band: 390 – 560 USD per day depending upon experience, knowledge, and skills.
