Assignment/Activity: Conduct formative research of a Women RISE study in Bangladesh with particular emphasis on Photo Voice, a qualitative research method.

Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka

Expected start date of assignment: November 2023

Duration: 11 months

Scope of Work: The consultant will contribute to the study titled “System Thinking for Strengthening Preparedness for Combating Infectious Disease Outbreaks and Future Pandemics among Working Women in Urban Informal Settlements: An Implementation Research in Two Selected Cities in Bangladesh.” She/He will provide her/his expert guidance on formative research especially on the qualitative methods to be applied for data collection of this study. She/he will help particularly provide her/his expertise in conducting an innovative qualitative method called photovoice. Photovoice will be conducted as a part of formative research to understand, elicit and analyze data in the interest of knowledge dissemination and mobilization. She/he will employ a photovoice that will offer a nuanced understanding of community issues to the scientific community.

Specific Responsibilities:

• To guide the team to conduct the photovoice interviews with the working women in the community level in urban informal settings;
• Conduct the analysis of the data obtained from photovoice;
• Arrange a photo exhibition engaging the relevant stakeholders;
• Draft a report for sharing with the donor;
• Draft manuscripts for scientific paper publication;
• Present study findings to conference when needed;

Expected deliverables:

1. The analysis of the photovoice be shared by the consultant
2. Drafting the report on the photovoice and be shared with the Principal Investigator of the study
3. Guide the team to prepare a scientific paper to be submitted to a peer-reviewed Journal for publication.

Required qualifications and experience:

• MSS, PhD preferred in Social Science
• Advanced training in qualitative research methods
• At least 10 years of working experience in the field of gender equality and health
• Knowledge of Gender and Public Health.
• Experience in the design and implementation of the intervention package
• Experience in working in the region, and experience in Bangladesh is desirable;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience in successfully interacting with host government officials, civil society partners, and other stakeholders;
• Excellent writing skills in English and extensive experience in report writing.
