Program Overview:
TheAfrican Energy Dialogues (AED)aims tocreate a space for African voices to converge in developing nuanced energy pathways for African countries. The stakeholders involved in this initiativewill deliberate on opportunities and trade-offs for achieving African countries’ energy development andindustrialisationobjectives. The discourse facilitated byAEDwill address numerous key topics related to countries’ unique energy transition pathways – including theutilisationof fossil fuels and renewable energy resources; enabling policies and regulations; trade, import and export considerations; local and regional transmission and distribution issues; and strategies for scaling up investment and finance.
The discourseof AEDisled collaboratively by a Steering CommitteeincludingWorld Resources Institute (WRI)Africa, the African Energy Commission (AFREC), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).TheAEDmeetings include in-person and virtual convenings of national and regional policymakers and other keystakeholders in the energy sector across the continent.The AEDwill deliver reports, policy proposals, recommendations, and tools developed through rigorous discussion, research, and analysis carried out by thematic Working Groups.Currently, the AED Steering Committee has identified three working groups,including Investment and FinanceWorking Group (IFWG),EnablingPolicies and Regulations Working Group(EPRWG),andTechnologiesand InfrastructureWorking Group(T&IWG). These knowledge materialswill be developed in part by ad hoc taskforces assigned to each Working Group,will be reviewed and approved bythe appropriate Working GroupandtheSteeringCommittee,and will be used strategically to support country-level policymakers in their energy transition planning.
WRIintendsto award a consultant a nine-month reimbursablecontract forresearch and analysis to support the taskforce of the IFWG under the AED,on various topics related tolocally ledinvestment and financeissuesforAfrica’s energy transition pathways.
