Under the overall technical guidance and supervision of the CIAP Programme Management Officer and/or his designee, the consultant will undertake the following activities: – Successfully contributed to finalising the draft of the Balkan study by incorporating internal comments and feedback from Member States (MS). – Produced the initial draft of the South Asia booklet and subsequently refined the report based on successful integration of internal comments and feedback from MS. – Successfully finalised the draft of the Southern route assessment of criminal networks, incorporating internal comments and feedback from MS. – Contributed effectively to the drafting of the assessment on opiate and methamphetamine trafficking through the northern and Caucasus routes, and successfully finalised the report based on feedback. -Successfully completed the short analytical update on Afghan opiate trafficking.

Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant, under the supervision of the CIAP Programme Management Officer and/or his designee, will contribute to the following analytical products by actively engaging in tasks such as collecting primary and secondary data, analysing both quantitative and qualitative data and information, and drafting sections of the report. – Southern route report – South Asia booklet – Balkan route study – Southern route assessment of criminal networks – Short analytical update on Afghan opiate trafficking – Assessment on opiate and methamphetamine trafficking through the northern and Caucasus routes
Qualifications/special skills
• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Law, Humanities, Security Studies, Political Science, or similar fields is required. • A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying working experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. • A minimum of seven years of experience in conducting research, threat assessment, risk analysis or political analysis is required. • Experience working for law enforcement agencies, customs, the judiciary or other public security agencies, including at the international or regional levels, is required. • Experience producing written outputs in relation to transnational crime, organized crime and trafficking of illicit commodities is required. • Previous work experience with United Nations system and/or other international organizations is desirable.
Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is an advantage.
