Program Overview
World Resources Institute (WRI) is an independent national research organization that turns big ideas into action at the nexus of environment, economic opportunity, and human well-being. WRI Indonesia is affiliated with the World Resources Institute (WRI), a global environmental research organization that works with various stakeholders to support policies and practices that are sustainable and profitable. We organize our work around five crucial issues, which are Forest and Land Use, Climate, Energy, Cities and Transportation, and the Ocean.
The 2021 IPCC report highlights the increasing risk of global warming surpassing 1.5°C unless there’s a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In response, Indonesia updated its emissions reduction targets in 2022, aiming for a 31.89% reduction through national efforts and 43.20% with international assistance. Countries like Indonesia, which heavily rely on high-emission sectors for GDP, can transition to a low-carbon economy by decarbonizing industry and expanding renewable energy sources to successfully achieve those targets.
WRI Indonesia’s Energy and Sustainable Business (ESB) programworks to advance decarbonization among businesses, accelerating a just transition towards net zero emission in Indonesia while balancing the need for economic development. We drive the adoption of transformative business models, develop supporting ecosystems, and empower businesses to achieve net-zero emissions. Through research, decarbonization tools, climate innovation, and evidence-based policy recommendations, we lead two flagship initiatives: (i) The Kadin Net Zero Hub (Kadin NZH), assisting companies affiliated with Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on their path to net-zero emissions, and (ii) the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA), advancing policies and financing for clean energy in the commercial and industrial sectors.
