Background of the Project
Center for Renewable Energy in Aquaculture known for short as; CeREA project funded by Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was launched in June 2023. A 4-year project to refine, test, and scale innovative renewable energy solutions that enable 5,000 fish producers, processors, and other fish value chain actors in Egypt to increase their productivity and incomes, leading to improved food and nutrition security, reduced food waste and loss, and more energy-efficient and climate-smart food value chains. The intervention logic posits that by deploying appropriate renewable energy technologies for aquaculture, alongside an effective capacity building and planning for scaling the Egyptian aquaculture sector growth in a sustainable, climate-friendly and inclusive manner to support both the economic growth and protein needs of the country’s rapidly expanding population.

Study Objective
It is recognized that a proper baseline (scoping) study is required to perform extensive analyses of the optimal renewable energy solutions for tackling key challenges within Egyptian aquaculture. Thus, WorldFish intends to hire a consultant to provide on-the-ground consultation for a baseline (scoping) study to determine which innovations are most likely to pilot and scale and which ones have the most potential to advance gender and social inclusion in Egypt. Assess the cost-effectiveness of these technologies within Egyptian aquaculture and identify which are most likely to simultaneously deliver increased productivity and incomes, increased jobs, improvements in efficiency, and more effective natural resource management and climate resilience. The consultant is expected to become familiar with project outcomes and outputs through a desk review of project key documents. Deliverables are to be carried out through field visits. The consultant will hire and train survey enumerators and work in coordination with project survey consultants, WorldFish, and the MEL team. The specific objectives of the study are as follows:
