Organizational Setting

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA’s nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the Agency’s activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.

The Division of Nuclear Security (NSNS) is responsible, upon request, for establishing, coordinating and implementing the IAEA’s nuclear security programme to protect against, detect and respond to nuclear security events and threats thereof. NSNS comprises four Sections:

•Information Management Section
•Nuclear Security of Materials Outside of Regulatory Control Section
•Nuclear Security of Materials and Facilities Section
•Programme Development and International Cooperation Section

 

Main Purpose

The main purpose of the consultancy is to develop the outreach and communication materials on various topics of nuclear security, ensuring visual consistency of different outreach materials used by the Division of Nuclear Security (presentation files, web pages, NUSEC portal, SharePoint) with the IAEA style and the Division’s brand identity, as well as to developing training materials on communication in nuclear security.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Update the new NUSEC portal pages with content as required;
• Re-design presentation files commonly used by the Division’s staff;
• Design infographics for relevant outreach and communication materials such as factsheets to be published electronically and printed;
• Provide input to internal communication activities, such as the NSNS newsletter;
• Prepare graphics and imagery to support exhibits, wall displays, and exhibition booths;
• Prepare graphics and imagery to increase interest in social media posts about nuclear security activities;
• Develop training materials on communication in nuclear security;
• Prepare outreach-related projects, as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree (bachelor’s) in Public Information, International Relations, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years experience in outreach and public communication on complex technical topics.
  • Experience in communication on nuclear security related subjects is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in design and development of the outreach materials for the large events or conferences.
  • Good understanding of the communication needs for the successful events.
  • Skilled and adept use of the following software is an advantage: InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Video editing tool.
  • Web maintenance experience is an advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an asset.

Remuneration

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 250, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
