The Cultural Policies and Development Entity (CLT/CPD) of the UNESCO Culture Sector provides technical assistance to UNESCO Member States in the design, adaptation and implementation of their cultural policies. This work builds on UNESCO normative instruments and programmes in the field of culture and beyond, as well as advocates for the transformative role of culture in the broader realm of public policy. It thus contributes to strengthening, assessing and measuring the cross-cutting and multidimensional contribution of culture to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Long Description

Under the authority of the Director of Cultural Policies and Development and the supervision of the Programme Coordinator, the contractor shall, in the context of the UNESCO Medium-Term Strategy (C/4) and approved Programme and Budget (C/5), further transversal approaches and intersectoral cooperation across UNESCO’s mandate in culture and education, including by engaging with UNESCO’s Member States, Programme Sectors, Field Offices and external partners to support programme design and monitor programme implementation

Long Description

In this context, by Decision 211 EX/39 in 2021, Member States called upon UNESCO to undertake a global consultation process to develop a Framework on Culture and Arts Education with policy guidelines, as well as requested that a World Conference on Culture and Arts Education be held in 2023. The development of the Framework builds on the UNESCO Roadmap on Arts Education of 2006 and the Seoul Agenda for Arts Education of 2010, to respond to the need to adapt and transform education policies and practices that are relevant to learners today. It encompasses a broad understanding of culture – from heritage, to arts and creativity – as well as the evolution of the cultural sector over the past decade, which has been influenced by digital transformation. The Framework will be presented to the World Conference on Culture and Arts Education to be hosted by the United Arab Emirates in early 2024.
