About IWMI:
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is at the forefront of innovative research addressing water-related challenges in agriculture, climate change, and resilience. As part of our commitment to enhancing water and climate resilience in fragile, conflict, or disaster-affected situations, IWMI is seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant for a crucial research project.
Job Description:
Objective of the Assignment:
The adoption of climate-adaptive and co-mitigation agronomic practices at the farm level faces challenges, including farmers’ perceptions of climate risks and their willingness to embrace innovation. Due to the absence of timely localized climate information, farmers often rely on their perceptions, which can be influenced by cognitive biases.
This consultancy’s specific objective is to quantitatively assess the impact of climate risk perception on farmers’ adoption behaviors using primary data and econometric analysis. The results, presented as a peer-reviewed research article, will inform EiA researchers, extension agencies, and implementers on the benefits of developing climate information tools for farmers and enhancing the adoption of climate-adaptive and co-mitigation agronomic practices.
This assignment aims to bridge the gap between perception and action, promoting more resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
Scope of Work:
The econometric analysis for the article will be cross-sectional but is expected to use robust causal inference techniques to identify the effect of climate risk perception on adoption behaviors. The analysis will be based on baseline survey data collected by EiA in two different contexts: in Ethiopia, among the beneficiaries of the digital green use case, and in Nigeria, among the beneficiaries from the ATAFI-CARI use case.
