JOB DETAIL

Background:

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) will conduct two related evaluation studies within the Food Security Response and Resilience Project (FSRRP) in Yemen, which is endorsed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Bank (WB), World Food Program (WFP), Social Fund for Development (SFD), and Small Micro Enterprise Promotion Service (SMEPS). IFPRI will conduct an impact evaluation measuring the impact of the value chain interventions on agricultural production, food security, and resilience capacity of beneficiaries and will measure household resilience trends over time for beneficiaries of all interventions in the Food Security Response and Resilience project.

Activities:

The consultant will support the project’s research and data collection-related activities in Yemen including: supervising the rollout of fieldwork activities and data collection alongside the survey firm in the Northern and Southern governorates of Yemen; monitoring incoming data for quality assurance; assisting with data cleaning and reporting on all activities; assisting with data analysis; leading the generation and evaluation of the resilience indicators used; providing general project support.

The consultant will attend the necessary meetings throughout the planning and implementation phases. The consultant may also be required to attend discussions related to data collection approvals and permissions as advised by IFPRI, FAO, and the survey firm. Some international travel may be required.

Required qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Agricultural Economics, Health Economics, Statistics, or closely related fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in academia, the private sector, a development-oriented organization, or comparable institution in the area of impact evaluation.
  • Good knowledge of microeconomic theory and quantitative econometric methods.
  • Excellent analytical mind and drafting skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines, and manage time well.
  • Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative.
  • Ability to participate in fieldwork/data collection process.
  • Willingness to travel
  • Willingness to learn computer programming such as STATA.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the literature on agriculture, social protection, nutrition, food security and poverty reduction
  • Previous experience related to impact evaluations of agriculture, social protection or nutrition programs and policies.
  • Good knowledge of STATA

Duration of work:

IFPRI anticipates that the time required for this contract will be approximately 132 working days during year one of the project.
