Program Overview for Sustainable Cities and Transport

How your day will unfold:
You will be asked to work with the project team on the work related to gender equality in tenure, housing, and basic services in India. You will be asked to assist the team in:

a) desk-based research

b) On ground partner interaction and primary surveys for selected states

c) documentation of the study reports at multiple stages of the project.

Scope and Deliverables:

The detailed work unfolds as follows.

  • Literature reviews and case study documentation: Support desk-based research through literature reviews to understand the current state of discourse on gender and housing. This would include review of studies undertaken by think tanks and other peer organizations while formulating guiding principles and parameters for this study. All relevant National Acts, government policies and schemes to be identified and a summary of the same to be prepared. A similar review needs to be conducted at the selected state level, which will be shortlisted based on a defined set of criteria. You will be asked to also help in documenting case studies, good practices, and progress in the country focusing on gender and equitable access to land, housing, and services.
  • Data collation from multiple secondary sources: Help with data collation from various sources such as population census, National Sample Survey Reports, Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC), National Family Health Survey, India Human Development Survey, Economic Census and Agriculture Census.
  • Onsite interaction with the important partners of the selected States: Travel to selected 3 States and assist the team in conducting primary surveys, focused group discussions and important informant interviews. You will be asked to support the team in developing communications materials and questionnaires for conducting primary surveys.
  • Assistance in preparing study reports and presentations: Help provide all necessary background data analysis required for the study report and presentations. Help produce the project deliverables following the standards and expectation of the organization and partner organization. Work with remote team members by the project related progress and insights.

Skills and Qualifications that we seek:

– Post-graduate in urban studies or equivalent
– 4 to 7 years of work experience in the area of gender equality, adequate housing and social housing.
– Familiarity with the policy landscapes related to housing and on aspects related to gender and social inclusion.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.
– Excellent research, writing, editing, and communication skills.

Compensation: Compensation shall be commensurate with experience and skills.

Duration: 7 Months

Location: Remote, but will have to travel to the worksites as and when required
