Program Overview for Sustainable Cities and Transport

Project Overview
WRI India is looking to hire a consultant with experience working on studies related to urban planning, economic development, innovation and strategy development. The ideal candidate will have considerable domain knowledge and experience in the areas of Cities, Urban Planning and Jobs. The chosen candidate will work closely with WRI India’s Urban Development team, comprising a diverse range of experts in the field of urban and regional planning, GIS / remote sensing and environmental sustainability. The primary endeavour of this team is to inform policies, plans and projects at the national, regional and local levels – to shape the urban expansion of Indian cities, by balancing the objectives of environmental sustainability with equitable economic development.
Scope and Deliverables:
• Be the focal point for building partnerships to advance a structured and place-based approach to economic development planning in Visakhapatnam.
• Coordinate with project management teams based in Delhi to ensure project goals and expectations are met.
• Provide context specific insights, collect relevant data from stakeholders and do ground checks, while effectively communicating the same to remotely located teams.
• Facilitate stakeholder consultations and opportunity framing exercises to co-create economic visions, prioritize action areas, and identify existing, committed, and potential strategic projects.
• Prepare presentations and write analytical reports to succinctly capture spatial, economic, social, and environmental insights for the dissemination of these findings to relevant stakeholders.
• Participate in external meetings, roundtable discussions and conferences and represent organizational interests.
• Work closely with the GIS / remote sensing team members to develop economic, social, climate, and environmental insights from spatial data. Work closely with project team members to develop policy positions on sustainable economic development planning including the conceptualization of spatio-economic plans and strategic projects.
Skills and Qualifications that we seek:
• Master’s Degree (or higher) in Urban Economics, Urban Planning, Business
• At least 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience in Cities, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Jobs, Program Development
• Excellent research, writing, editing, and communication skills
• Familiarity with GIS, SPSS/ STATA will be a bonus
• Experience in urban economic strategy, city/ region master planning, urban investment planning, and project formulation would be beneficial.
• Highly motivated, proactive workstyle, detail oriented, and organized
• Ability to take on the responsibilities described above with a high level of independence.
• Fluent in Telugu and English.
Compensation: Compensation shall be commensurate with experience and skills.
Duration: 6 months
Location: Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
