Introduction and Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women’s India Country Office, based in New Delhi, India, works to accelerate the advancement of gender equality and the empowerment of women through the strengthening of strategic partnerships, technical and policy advisory services and advocacy with governmental, inter-governmental and civil society partners. In addition, UN Women CO is charged with leading and coordinating the UN system’s work on gender equality, including through ensuring accountability for results.
As part of its mission to improve organizational capacity and build strong leadership, UN Women is seeking to conduct a two-day workshop for its team leaders. The goal is to enhance leadership skills and team management capabilities, fostering a more effective and collaborative work environment that aligns with UN Women’s core objectives of women’s empowerment and sustainable impact.
This Terms of Reference (TOR) is prepared for the engagement of an individual consultant to conduct a two-day workshop aimed at capacity building for team leaders on the key aspects of leadership and team management. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance the leadership abilities and management skills of the participants, enabling them to lead their teams more effectively, drive better performance, and foster a collaborative work environment.

UN Women India CO recently conducted a business transformation workshop during which certain ideal values, practices and behaviour emerged as our focus areas to improve on. Further UN Women has also conducted a 360 degree feedback for its managers recently. In alignment with that, we in UN Women wishes to hire a Consultant to prioritize and cultivate the following ideal values with capacity-building initiatives for managers. The commitment to the mandate of empowering women, fostering respect and compassion across all levels, and encouraging collaboration, transparency, and inclusivity will be paramount. Additionally, the Consultant should emphasize sustainability, integrity, and efficiency, while also championing the principles of gender equality and leaving no one behind (LNOB). These values will not only enhance our organizational culture but also ensure that our team leads and other senior colleagues embody these ideals in their daily practices and interactions.
Furthermore, we anticipate that the Consultant will focus on integrating the identified ideal practices and behaviors into their training and capacity-building efforts. This includes fostering a culture of strong planning and respect for deadlines, as well as providing training and orientation for new hires to promote inclusivity and eliminate bias. We seek to instill a culture of accountability and proactiveness, supported by respectful communication and a safe working environment. Emphasizing decentralized decision-making, cross-learning, mentorship, and work-life balance will be crucial. The Consultant should also encourage timely and constructive feedback, open communication, and mutual respect to create an environment where all team members feel valued and empowered to contribute.

The consultant should have a master’s degree in Organizational development, Leadership Studies, or Business Administration, with at least 5 years of experience in conducting leadership training or capacity-building workshops, ideally within non-profit or social development sectors.
