The objective of the consultancy is to support building a new CGE Model for the economy of UAE and provide training programm.
Activities, Methodology and Timelines
The following activities will be implemented:
Act 1.1. Develop the Macroeconomic framework for the Business-as-Usual scenario.
Act 1.2. Calibrate the dynamic CGE model.
Act 1.3. Provide required SIM files to ESCWA ‘s IT team to build the first version of the Model in MIRO format.
Act 1.4. Present the model and the interface to the Authorities and get their feedback, comments, suggestions and/or validation.
Act 1.5. Develop the final version of the model that includes all the feedback and comments and support in its upload in the platform.
Act 1.6. Deliver a training workshop on the features of the national CGE model and how to run simulations using the interface.

Duties and Responsibilities
Within the scope of technical assistance provided to MSs to strengthen their planning capacity in conducting policy analysis using Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) modelling, a consultant will be recruited to build a specific Model to UAE.
The objective of the consultancy is to build a dynamic CGE model for the economy of UAE and to provide a training program.
Outputs:
• Develop the new dynamic CGE model
• Assist ESCWA’s in building the model’s interface
• Prepare training materials and deliver the training
Qualifications/special skills
A master’s degree or equivalent degree in Economics or any other related area is required. A Ph.D. in economics is desirable.
All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
A minimum of ten years of experience in economic research is required.
Experience in quantitative analysis and developing CGE Model in economics is required.
Languages
Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in Arabic is required and fluency in English is desirable.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
