Organizational Setting
The Director General’s Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States’ needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.
The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA’s global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.
The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.
Main Purpose
The consultant will provide technical advice and expertise with the aim to maximize IAEA’s communication and outreach efforts through targeted, diverse digital visual products such as: social media visuals and stories, infographics/data visualization, animated visuals, among others.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Working under the supervision of the Section Head, the guidance of the Social Media Team and in close collaboration with technical staff across the organization, the consultant’s primary tasks include the following:
• Develop social media assets (static and animated) in line with the Organization’s Social Media strategy, to be part of digital campaign packages in different UN official languages;
• Visualize data and translate it into attractive graphic elements – graphics, infographics, cartoons, short animations and GIFs;
• Create different narratives (from drafting text to creating customised illustrations) with fit-for-purpose and powerful storytelling;
• Summarise complex scientific topics into visually engaging products for a broad public audience;
• Propose ways to visualize data and information derived from IAEA web stories, studies, surveys, databases and publications, and implement these proposals once approved;
• Verify and ensure user and social media-friendly formats, layout, and design in line with IAEA branding guidelines;
• Adapt and optimize the graphic design work submitted to different social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Weibo);
• Create and maintain an asset library (online and offline) with all the products created.
• Work to tight deadlines to a high standard.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree – University degree in graphic or digital design, art, communications or a related field;
- Minimum five years of experience in digital and graphic design;
- Experience in producing graphic and animated content for use in social media;
- Excellent skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects;
- Awareness and sensitivity regarding nuclear science topics is and advantage;
- Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an asset.
- Experience working with multilingual products is desirable;
- Good interpersonal and networking skills;
- Effective written and oral communication skills;
- Proficiency using Mac and PC platforms.
Remuneration
The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 260, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent. |
