Organizational Setting

The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.

The Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section (NFCMS) assists interested Member States in the development of safe, environmentally friendly, economically viable, proliferation-resistant and sustainable fuel cycle options and it encourages information exchange on the exploration, mining and processing of uranium and thorium, on the design, manufacturing and performance of nuclear fuels, on the management of spent fuel, and on the development of advanced and innovative nuclear fuels and fuel cycles.

 

Main Purpose

Reporting directly to the Technical Lead on Spent Fuel Management (SFM), the consultant will provide technical expertise to the SFM Team in the preparation and implementation of the International Conference on the Management of Spent Fuel (SFM’24), including the proceedings publication as well as in other on-going activities (such as the maintenance of the SFM-Net, the development of e-Learning, the implementation of the Coordinated Research Project T13021, etc.).

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

 

For the preparation and implementation of the SFM’24:
The submitted abstracts have been assessed and selected for either oral or poster presentations and the INDICO platform has been set up to meet the structure of the Conference’s scientific programme. The call for full papers submission has been open. To have all full papers prepared to be displayed on the IAEA Conference App and published in the IAEA Conference Proceedings, a full peer-review process will be conducted. This will necessitate a continuous communication with the reviewers to guide them through the peer-review process and with the authors to ensure reviewer’s comments are taken into consideration. It is also important that all full papers uploaded on the INDICO platform meet the IAEA quality requirements (both in terms of their technical content and their format) so that they are ready to be published as Conference Proceedings together with the Conference sessions summaries, introductory statements, and main conclusions. Hence the following deliverables will be expected:

• Provide technical expertise to Track-leaders and reviewers during the full papers peer-review process.
• Compile peer-reviewed papers and communicate with the authors to ensure a smooth implementation of the peer-review process.
• Track the formatting and editing of the peer-reviewed full papers before the Conference to publish them through the IAEA Conference App, during the event, and as official IAEA Proceedings, after the event.
• Liaise with authors for keeping updated the reception of oral presentations & posters during the event to be posted on the IAEA Conference App.
• Prepare meeting reports of plenary and poster sessions.
• Keep SFM’24 Conference website content up to date in collaboration with Conference Services.
• Coordinate with NE-Comm and OPIC for external information on SFM’24 Conference as needed.
• Gather and track the reception of sessions summaries, introductory and closing statements and main conclusions from Track-leaders and Conference Chairperson.
• Provide technical expertise in the preparation of topical events, side events, poster sessions, etc., during the Conference.

 

 

For the support of the SFM Team on ongoing activities:
• Maintain and update the SFM-Net web page.

• Provide technical inputs to the implementation of the Coordinated Research Project T13021 on “Challenges, Gaps and Opportunities for Managing Spent Fuel from Small Modular Reactors”

• Compile technical information on specific topics related to Spent Fuel Management to support the development of e-Learning Materials.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Master’s Degree – Master’s Degree in Sciences

• Technical background on spent fuel and radioactive waste management, decommissioning and any other related topic.
• Computer and software skills (preferably SharePoint and INDICO);
• Good communication skills. Fluent in English;
• Good organizational and time-management skills;
• Experience in organization events, coordinating speakers and contributors, including peer-review of papers;
• Experience in gathering information from different sources and contributors in a consistent document/output;
• Experience in writing/editing/formatting technical reports and documents.

 

Remuneration

 

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 150, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
