Org. Setting and Reporting

The Secretariat of the Chief Executives Board (CEB) is an inter-agency entity responsible for supporting the work of the CEB, the highest-level coordination forum of the United Nations system. The Secretariat also supports the work of the CEB’s high-level committees: the High-Level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) and the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM). It is co-located in New York and Geneva. This position is located in the Geneva office.
The Coordination Officer will report to the HLCM Secretary.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Coordination Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

– Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects related to inter-agency issues.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues of system-wide interest to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant stakeholders; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
– Supports various HLCM task forces, fora, and working groups on several UN system-wide priorities.
– Performs consulting assignments on inter-agency issues, in collaboration with various stakeholders, by planning and facilitating workshops/meetings, through other interactive sessions, and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
– Researches, analyzes, and presents information on inter-agency issues gathered from diverse sources.
– Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations, or other research activities and studies.
– Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes, and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues, and prepares conclusions.
– Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. for CEB, HLCM, and its Networks and working groups.
– Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings, and conferences, particularly on inter-agency issues, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
– Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
– Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
– Performs other duties as required.

Planning and organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies. Identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required. Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work. Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary. Uses time efficiently.

Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in business administration, management, political science, international relations, economics or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area, of which two within the UN system, is required.

Experience in inter-agency coordination is required.

Experience in the organization of high-level events, as well as interacting with and presenting to high-level officials is required.

Experience in policy development is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
