Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in Jerusalem, in the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Coordination Unit.
Responsibilities
The Coordination Officer supports the work of UNSCO’s Coordination Unit. The officer supports efforts to promote a coherent approach to development activities by the international community, in particular the members of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the substantive sections of the mission (UNSCO) seeking to ensure synergies that are aligned with the Palestinian Authority’s national plans and priorities. Within delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Unit, the Coordination Officer will carry out the following duties: • Supports and engages in the development and monitoring of the UN’s Peace and Development Agenda, UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework in the country; relevant early recovery planning and eventual Integrated recovery and reconstruction framework/ identifies; identifies key issues including challenges that require immediate support and advice. • Provides substantive and practical support to UN coordination mechanisms and ensure linkages with the work of the UNCT at the national level; this can include, support UNCT meetings, as appropriate active participation in and support for formal coordination mechanisms as well as leading or co-leading working groups on issues of key importance to UNSCO’s and the UNCT’s programmatic priorities. • Contributes to integrated humanitarian, development, peace and political UN approaches, planning, programming and implementation. • Monitors, analyses and reports on trends on the human and socio-economic rights situation, external aid and public financial management, and in the UN’s evolving programmatic strategies. • Drafts routine and ad hoc situation reports/briefings including input for reports of the Secretary-General, the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee, UNCT Annual results reports, the monthly Security Council briefings and reports Brief and UNSCO biweekly reports. • Prepares background materials, briefing packs and talking points for the relevant meetings. • Supports information sharing between UNSCO and UNCT coordination mechanisms and partners. • Provides regular updates and analysis of developments of relevance to the provision of basic Services and economic opportunities. • Identifies opportunities for the UNCT to better support access to basic services and economic opportunities. This include includes active engagement with the UNCT, donors and Palestinian and Israeli counterparts. • Supports organizing external stakeholder engagement with UN, INGOs, development partners, Government, CSOs, communities and potentially others. • Performs any other assigned duties.

Education
• Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, political science, international relations, public administration, anthropology, law, economics or related area. • A first–level University degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating development or humanitarian activities in national governments and/or at the international level is required Experience analyzing political, economic and social challenges and communicating strategic policy and programmatic advice, including to senior leadership, donors and governments, is required. At least two years of experience in coordinating activities in (post)-conflict countries and/or in international organizations or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is required. Two years of experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) – or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable Past experience working in or on the Middle East, including Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory, is desirable. Experience participating coordinating supporting in inter-agency coordination mechanisms/ structures at the local or national level is desirable.
Languages
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
