Title of Assignment: Copyright Registration Analyst

Expected places of travel (if applicable): On-site assessments in 2-3 copyright offices in Africa, LAC and/or Asian regions
Expected duration of assignment: 12 months
1. Objective of the assignment
In response to demand from member states, IPOBSD is planning to extend support to IP offices that provide for voluntary registration of copyright. Other forms of copyright management, such as royalty collection and distribution, are excluded from the scope of work. The project will deliver enhanced functionality in WIPO’s IP Office Suite to support online filing, registration, recordation and optionally publication and depository functionality for copyright works. The project will also deliver functionality to support other forms of IP rights including traditional cultural expressions, geographical indications and other non-traditional IP rights.
The purpose of the assignment is to work with pilot IP offices to identify requirements, ensure that their needs are taken into account, validate the system specifications and delivery and to conduct requirements analysis and/or training workshops with pilot offices.
2. Deliverables/Services
(a) Coordinate with IP offices supporting copyright registration to capture and document their requirements as high-level business requirements.
(b) Validation of delivered software specifications and products and delivery of validation reports.
(c) Sharing of knowledge with team members through training sessions and online seminars for internal team members.
(d) Coordination of workshops and training sessions to validate the system with target IP offices and to transfer knowledge to IP office staff..
(e) Other related activities as required.
3. Reporting
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Director of the IPOBSD. The incumbent will work closely with other members of IPOBSD responsible for project management, business analysis and product delivery.
The incumbent will provide monthly activity reports as well as the agreed deliverables and documentation to meet the objectives of the assignment.
Profile
Experience
– 10 years of experience in copyright registration and copyright business processes.
– 7 years of experience in the analysis, validation and deployment of complex IT solutions, preferably in e-government environments.
– Experience working with software development teams to design and deliver complex business solutions..
– Experience in related business processes of IP offices (patent, trademark, designs) is an advantage.
Knowledge, skills and competencies
– Detailed knowledge of copyright management and copyright registration in national and/or regional IP offices.
– Knowledge of the processes for documentation and declaration of traditional cultural expressions and other emerging IP-related rights.
– Excellent analytic skills, drafting and presentation.
– Experience with the delivery of business software solutions in developing countries and countries in transition.
Languages
– Excellent written and spoken English.
– Knowledge of at least one other UN official language is an advantage.
Education and Certification
– First-level university degree in business, law or related disciplines;
– Post-graduate level certification or qualification in IP law would be an advantage.
4. Duration of contract and payment
– Up to 40 days over a period of 12 months.
– Payment will be based on a daily rate and subject to validation of deliverables.
