Overview:

FHI 360 has an exciting internship opportunity for a student interested in growing their skills within the international development sector. Under close supervision, an Intern will perform entry level professional duties which will provide the opportunity for professional training in various functional areas throughout the organization. Internship assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to a global nonprofit development organization.

 

The Corporate Events & Outreach Intern will assist with the planning, development and implementation of all Public Engagement activities at the corporate level, helping to elevate FHI 360’s expertise, impact and thought leadership. This includes supporting the Public Engagement team’s work at a broad range of conferences and events, as well as helping leverage FHI 360’s corporate memberships. The position will also help support the Public Engagement team in development guidance and building communications capacity for FHI 360’s regional offices and business units. Under close supervision and mentorship from the Events Manager and Events Associate, the Corporate Events & Outreach Intern will perform entry-level event management and public engagement/relations duties.

 

The successful Corporate Events & Outreach Intern will build strong working relationships with other Corporate Communications team members. They will have a strong passion for communications and a desire to learn from a high-performing, cross-functional team. They will be a key support to events, sponsorships and memberships and help promote FHI 360’s projects, research and thought leadership. They will have strong organizational skills and be able to manage administrative duties efficiently and effectively.

 

This is a paid internship with a flexible schedule based on project needs.

 

Anticipated Duration: Spring 2025 Semester: January-May 2025

 

Hours: 20-30 hours/week

 

Pay Rate: $18.00/hour

Location: Preference for applicants that are within commutable distance to either the Durham, NC or Washington, DC office.

Anticipated Project(s) and Assignment Details:

The intern may contribute to various team or project activities under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways:

  • Track and manage deadlines and communications across events, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and within budget for events, memberships and sponsorships
  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications colleagues, business units, and outside partners to develop materials promoting and delivering a strong brand presence
  • Assist with development of event prep presentations to ensure FHI 360 attendees are well-prepared as they represent the organization at industry convenings
  • Record event metrics (including website impressions, attendees and speakers) and provide a report highlighting FHI 360’s presence and impact. Share these findings quarterly with the leadership team
  • Support inter-team processes to ensure execution of key projects
  • Contribute to the development of events systems, processes and best practices
  • Support logistics for in-person events
  • Arrange and assist with team meetings and country calls (e.g., assist with meeting preparation, meeting minutes and post meeting reports)
  • Assist with project-related administrative tasks as needed, including managing schedules, taking meeting notes, and organizing files

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program or within one year post-graduation in a related field of study: Communications, International Studies/Relations, International Development, or Public Relations
  • Demonstrated interest in a related subject area through studies, work experience, and/or personal travel
  • Excellent project management and organization skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Responsive to requests
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to tackle new projects and ideas
  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English
  • Experience with project management software and Canva Pro design skills preferred, but not required

Typical Physical Demands:

  • ​Remote office environment
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift to 10 lbs.
