Your team

Within The European Green Sky Directorate, the “Aviation Sustainability” Unit leads and manages the Agency’s activities towards the EU and its agencies, ICAO, States and other stakeholders in support to their environment, climate-change and related polities.

Your role

Your role will be to:

  • Define, drive and implement a Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) strategy, and associated targets and actions plan in view of reducing carbon footprint of EUROCONTROL’s infrastructure and operations.
  • Develop policies, procedures and guidelines in all domains of CSR: environment, sustainability, social commitment, responsible procurement, sustainable finance, mobility, etc.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and external partners in implementing corporate environmental portfolio while meeting defined policies and procedures.
  • Identify and present initiatives while ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance with local laws and regulations in force.
  • Develop communication strategies and plans (i.e. articles, reports, info session, etc) to promote a culture of social responsibility across the Agency, support internal community engagement efforts, and provide external stakeholders and investors with insights on sustainability efforts.
  • Produce EUROCONTROL Corporate Social Responsibility reporting and documentation, and develop tools and metrics to measure and monitor progress and success, and identify potential adjustments/improvements.
  • Advise senior management and collaborate with managers to develop and implement strategies to promote a culture of social responsibility.
  • Lead governance committee, animate workshops and ensure coordination with CSR focal points across the organisation.
  • Monitor sustainability/social responsibility trends and external initiatives to support process improvement.
  • Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • University studies of at least 4 years in a relevant domain, or of 3 years plus 1-year relevant professional experience, or professional training of an equivalent level.
  • Internal candidates can check on the intranet to see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience, ideally gained in an international environment.
  • Proficiency in effectively developing and managing sustainability/CRS activities.
  • Knowledge of CRS laws and regulations, ideally those applicable in various or in all of the following countries: Belgium, France, Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
  • Experience in defining Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), preferably gained at UN or federal government level.
  • Experience in academic research relating to aviation sustainability is a plus or published work on sustainability in industry reports or academic journals.
  • Track record of drafting CSR/ sustainability and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) risk management reports.
  • Programme/project management skills.
  • Commitment to stay updated on relevant laws, regulations and industry best practices related to social responsibility.
  • Communication: You adapt your communication to different situations and audiences.
  • Strategic focus: You develop business/service strategy in line with the Agency’s strategy.
  • Result focus: You ensure achievement of shared goals.
  • Leading: You implement direction in line with strategic organisational goals.

  • The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1/C2. The selected candidate will be required to become basic users of French at level A1/A2 before the end of the probation period.
    The levels relate to the European-framework-reference Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

Useful information

  • Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member States only.
  • The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 5 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Staff Regulations governing officials at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 9 years or converted into an undetermined contract. Before being established in the post, the selected candidate will be requested to provide certified copies of their degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
  • Internal candidates
    If selected, the person will keep their current type of appointment duration (undetermined or determined).
    The internal staff member with a determined contract will be offered, in principle, an appointment for 5 Year(s) with a maximum total duration of 9 years.
  • The successful candidate shall be appointed at the grade set out in this vacancy notice, or if a group of grades has been published for a job level, in principle at the basic grade of the published job level.
  • Candidates declared suitable who are not selected for the post will be placed on a reserve list for similar roles. The reserve list will be valid for one year from the closing date of applications.
