The position is to be filled as of October 1, 2023, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be New Delhi, India, with frequent travel to project locations in the country.
Although India is a major food producer and has a growing economy, the country faces significant food and nutrition security challenges. More than one-third of India’s population, including children and women, suffer from malnutrition, which affects health, cognitive development and productivity. Welthungerhilfe (WHH) India promotes collaborative multi-stakeholder partnerships that foster a systemic and multi-sectoral approach to local and sustainable food systems in identified vulnerable core regions. The goal is to systematically strengthen civil society organizations to drive positive change and enhance access to rights and entitlements for vulnerable communities. As Country Director you are responsible for managing the impact oriented WHH country program. In doing so, you take into consideration the overall WHH strategy and mandate and ensure adherence to WHH quality standards.
Your responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the development, implementation and review of the country strategy
- Ensure sound financial management of allocated funds
- Ensure acquisition of funding from private and institutional donors with a focus on diversifying the donor portfolio
- Ensure the setup of country structures and processes adhere to WHH procedures and WHH quality standards
- Manage expatriate and national project staff, and ensure compliance with security regulations
- Maintain and expand the cooperation with national and international partners
- Engage in regular exchange of information with Head Office in Bonn and other Country Offices
- Update and ensure the application of preparedness plans for disasters and potential crises based on the country-specific situation
Your profile
- A university or college degree in a relevant field, such as International Development Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid, Management, Geography or Agricultural Sciences
- At least 10 years of relevant leadership and management experience in international development co-operation and/or humanitarian aid, preferably in the region
- Experience in advocacy and government relations management
- Experience in working with partner organizations and security/crisis management
- Broad knowledge of donor environment and experience in developing and managing donor relations
- Excellent HR Management skills, as well as cultural sensitivity
- Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
- Excellent spoken and written English language skills
