CHAI Overview
The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.
CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally. Program and Position Overview
Since the beginning of the HIV epidemic, the global community has made major strides in improving the quality and coverage of HIV treatment, especially across countries in sub-Saharan Africa which bear the brunt of the global HIV burden. However, progress has been unequal across geographies and populations, and challenges with retaining people in HIV treatment programs for life threaten progress to-date and result in adverse clinical outcomes. Continuing to introduce new and improved HIV treatments for all populations, as well as enhancing the way that HIV care is delivered to ensure it is person-centered, are critical activities to meet global HIV goals and end HIV as a public health threat.
CHAI’s Global HIV Access Program is seeking to hire a Country Support Manager (CSM) to support with these efforts to improve access to and the quality of HIV treatment in LMICs. They will contribute to a range of in-country projects focused on introducing and scaling new HIV treatments for adults and children and supporting the development and implementation of person-centered service delivery models for HIV treatment. Alongside these projects, the CSM will also support other relevant workstreams across the HIV team as needed, including fundraising and business development. This position will primarily support active projects in Ethiopia, Malawi, and Tanzania, but will frequently engage with other CHAI country teams in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia on HIV treatment-related topics. The CSM will report to the Associate Director of HIV Treatment and Market Intelligence.
This role will work closely with CHAI country teams, other cross-cutting CHAI teams, and country partners to provide technical, operational, and strategic support to execute on key activities, including country team engagement; developing reports and presentations; conducting desk research and analyses; supporting external partner engagement; leading workplan development; managing and monitoring project milestones, timelines, and deliverables; and coordinating reporting inputs. The CSM is also responsible for staying up to date with the latest HIV treatment market trends , evidence, and knowledge to serve as a resource to CHAI’s country and global teams for all things related to HIV treatment.
Travel is expected to be up to 50% to focal countries to support in-country engagements, technical meetings, etc. Pending country leadership approval, this role will be based in a CHAI program country in sub-Saharan Africa.
