The CrisisInSight Team
The CrisisInSight Team leads on ACAPS’ global analysis, providing independent and multisectoral data and analysis in the form of the following:
- Global analysis of crises’ severity, humanitarian access issues, risks and anticipation of impact of sudden onset crises.
- The CrisisInSight Team manages the INFORM Severity Index, a key index used by operational organisations and donors to inform humanitarian decision-making and prioritisation/resource allocation.
- Anticipatory analysis and scenario-building
- Country, regional and global level analysis on drivers of crises, humanitarian development, and humanitarian needs
- Dashboards and visualisations

The team is an engine room for ACAPS, a key space where innovation is folded into existing global analysis to improve the quality, speed and depth of our coverage. The year ahead will see CrisisInSight continue to develop our flagship global products, while, together with ACAPS technical experts, exploring new approaches, including AI.
Purpose of the position
ACAPS is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic leader for its CrisisInSight team to oversee the strategic direction, quality of delivery and operational functions for this exciting global project. The successful candidate must be a seasoned professional who can hit the ground running, with strong management skills, a passion for good quality data and evidence-based decision-making and who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Role and responsibilities
The CrisisInSight Manager has overall responsibility for the effective functioning of the CrisisInSight Team. He/she/they are directly responsible for setting strategy and priorities, maintaining key operational relationships inside and outside ACAPS, fundraising and staff management. The Manager is expected to represent the CrisisInSight Team in all high-level engagements and ensure overall quality and relevance of the ACAPS activities and any products produced by CrisisInSight.
The Manager reports to the Chief Operating Officer, with a close relationship with the ACAPS Chief Analyst on the strategy for analysis and quality of analysis production. The Manager will directly manage 3 units and will work closely across ACAPS teams, ensuring effective connections between CrisisInSight and the Country and Regional hubs.
The Manager will not only ensure delivery of the CrisisInSight strategy for today but also shape our forward direction to ensure our continued impact within an evolving and dynamic humanitarian landscape.
Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Lead the planning process to establish and evolve ACAPS CrisisInSight strategy
- In close collaboration with the Chief Analyst, ensure that CrisisInSight’s analytical focus is on salient humanitarian issues in line with the humanitarian principles of humanity and impartiality
- Participate as an active member of the ACAPS Extended Management Team and contribute towards ACAPS overall strategy.
Team Management
- Build and lead high-performing teams providing guidance, mentorship, and direction to team members.
- Supervise CrisisInSight team members in their responsibilities
- Promote accountability, communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback via regular one on ones and performance reviews.
- Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence
Program Quality & Development
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of CrisisInSight activities. This includes ensuring that MEAL processes are implemented, and that sound financial management, reporting and compliance are executed.
- Ensure the technical quality of all CrisisInSight activities and products, providing sign-off for products on behalf of ACAPS.
- Ensure measurement and analysis of key indicators for CrisisInSight performance.
- Ensure efficient coordination with cross-organisation functions including communication, data services and analysis coordination.
- Regularly monitor the status of identified project risks and be able to detect new risks or changes in the likelihood or impact of existing project risks.
- Oversee the development of new programs and manage existing program growth.
Methodology Coherence
- Oversee the consolidation of methodology and training guidance for CrisisInSight’s core products and ensure the cross-organisational coherence of ACAPS methodologies related to Access, Risk and Severity analysis, as well as other global analysis methodologies that ACAPS may develop in the future.
Partner Relations, Fundraising, and Business Development
- Develop and lead CrisisInSight’s fundraising strategy and efforts, in partnership with ACAPS Business Development Manager
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across a diverse range of partners, with the purpose of improving information exchange, ensuring relevance of CrisisInSight analysis products and maintaining awareness of key humanitarian trends and issues (this includes key donors, host government, local stakeholders and relevant policy and coordinating bodies).
- Lead on development of technical partnerships for CrisisInSight.
Financial Management and Budgeting
- Provide timely and effective oversight of the financial position of the CrisisInSight Team, including early identification of changes in revenues and expenses
- Work with the Chief Operating Officer and the Head of Finance to ensure solid financial forward planning
Perform other duties in the organisation as appropriate, including but not limited to:
- On occasion be available to review reports outside of regular working hours.
Knowledge and Experience
- MA/S or equivalent in social sciences, international development, business administration or other relevant field. A Bachelor’s degree with additional work experience will be accepted.
- Relevant solid experience in senior management (minimum 8-10 years) with significant experience in the humanitarian sector. Knowledge of global humanitarian architecture is essential.
- Proven understanding/application of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Significant understanding of humanitarian needs assessments and working with primary and secondary data and qualitative and quantitative methodologies
- Ability to lead diverse teams, handle negotiations and facilitate planning processes, including delicate transitions. Proven experience managing remote and dispersed teams.
- Demonstrated understanding of translating strategy into actionable business planning processes.
- Proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills required. Strong emotional intelligence and coaching/mentoring skills.
- Experience with a wide range of donors including institutional donors particularly, FCDO and ECHO. Familiarity with other donors is a plus.
- Fluent in written and spoken English. Fluency in French, Spanish or Arabic a significant asset. Excellent reading and writing skills, including excellent grammar, spelling and syntax abilities.
- Excellent computer skills (MS Office incl., Excel spreadsheets, word-processing) Knowledge of standard ICT office support tools including spreadsheets, word-processing and presentation software.
