Duties and Responsibilities
Background:
The Data Analyst will play a crucial role in leveraging data to contribute to the development of policy-making tools and online platforms for policy reforms’ impact simulation. The Data Analyst will be extracting, analyzing, and interpreting data, develop methodologies and economic models to provide actionable insights that contribute to informed decision-making and policymaking strategy design, assessment and implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Data Collection, and cleaning: Gather and consolidate data from various sources, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency. Employ data cleansing techniques to rectify errors and inconsistencies.
• Data Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis using statistical methods, econometric techniques, advanced data analytics tools and data visualization tools. Identify key insights, trends, and correlations within the data, and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
• Forecasting and Trend Analysis: Develop and apply predictive economic models to analyze current and future trends, patterns, outcomes, and relationships in the data. Utilize historical data and economic indicators to develop forecasts and projections. Evaluate model accuracy and refine methodologies as needed.
• Policy Analysis: Analyze economic policies, regulations, and market developments to provide informed policy recommendations. Assess the potential impacts of policy changes on Member States’ performances and developmental objectives.
• Analytical Insights: Collaborate with other sections and Member States to understand their analytical needs and translate these requirements into actionable insights that support decision-making.
• Report Generation: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarizing economic and data analysis findings. Generate dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest data analysis techniques, tools, and best practices. Identify opportunities for process improvement and propose data-driven solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other teams, to provide data-driven recommendations and insights.
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in the field of Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Computer science or related area is required.

Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in economic analysis, economic performance assessment, economic modeling and data analytics is required.
Proficiency in statistical softwares, econometrics tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, R, or similar is required.
Strong understanding of macroeconomic concepts, and policy analysis is required.
Proficiency in economic modelling, statistics for economic performance measurement and evaluation is desirable.
Familiarity with statistical techniques and predictive modelling approaches is desirable.
Excellent communication skills to effectively present and explain complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences is desirable.
Detail-oriented mindset with a strong emphasis on data accuracy and quality, economic modelling and methodology documentation is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
For this position, fluency in English is required, and knowledge of French is desirable.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
