Duties and Responsibilities
Background:
Within the framework of the ICTS section’s commitment tp expanding and enhancing ESCWA’s technological capabilities, substantial investments have been made in a range of initiatives and projects. These encompass data management, pipelines, visualization, analytics, machine learning and web development.
Within this context, the role of the Data-Driven Web Developer will be to support the development and upkeep of ESCWA’s online applications and portals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct supervision by the team leader, the contractor will work on developing and maintaining ESCWA online Policy tools . In particular, the candidate will perform the following tasks:
• Design and develop highly scalable and reliable backend systems
• Design and maintain high-performance databases using PostgreSQL or MS SQL Server or MySQL.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software products
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to software development best practices
• Continuously learn and stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends
Qualifications/special skills
A Bachelor’s degree in Math, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics or related field is required.

A minimum of 1 year of professional work experience as Web Developer or similar role is required.
Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery) is required.
Knowledge of Angular Framework is required.
Hands on experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes is required.
Knowledge of any of the following back-end languages (C#, Python) is required.
Familiarity with databases (namely: MS SQL Server or MySQL or MongoDB), web servers (IIS or Apache) is required.
Knowledge of React frameworks is desirable.
Knowledge of NodeJS is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.
For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
