The IMF’s Data Privacy Function, reporting to the Fund’s Chief Statistician & Data Officer & Director in the Statistics Department is seeking a Data Privacy Specialist to support the strengthening of its personal data privacy framework across the Fund.

Under the technical supervision of the Privacy Program Manager, the Data Privacy Specialist will be part of a small privacy team responsible for program implementation and compliance with the Fund’s Privacy Policy. Core responsibilities include:

  • Tracking privacy issues and international best practices and conducting research into relevant topics, such as privacy and AI governance, and providing regular briefings to the Data Privacy Team.
  • Supporting the development of a Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) library and privacy notices.
  • Drafting guidance notes, tip sheets, and check lists to support compliance with the Fund’s Privacy Policy.
  • Contributing to change management efforts, including providing inputs into trainings and micro-learnings, content for the data privacy intranet site, and similar tasks/activities.
  • Participating in the development and tracking of key program metrics and analytics, including working with the IT department to design dashboards and reports.
  • Responsible for responding to requests from individuals, including access, rectification, and objection requests, and;
  • Carrying out other duties related to data privacy and the Fund’s privacy program as assigned by the Privacy Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring the following qualities and capabilities to this position:

  • Educational development, typically acquired through the completion of an advanced university degree in risk management, legal, or related field study; or a bachelor’s degree in risk management, legal, or related field study supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience is required. Alternatively, a minimum of two years of experience in a related position at Grade A8, or equivalent, is required.
  • Must have experience implementing a privacy program, preferably at an international development bank or international organization.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws, regulations, industry best practices and an understanding of the impact of privacy regulation on international organizations and their operations is a plus.
  • Preferred candidates will have at least one International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certification or equivalent.
  • Solid analytical skills, with proficiency in Power BI or related technologies.
  • Superior ability to structure and create presentations and synthesize complex issues in an attractive and impactful format.
  • Ability to interface easily with internal staff at all levels, and actively engage with stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, able to multi-task and interact with multidisciplinary teams at different levels of seniority.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team and to learn quickly with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment, the ability to set priorities, work under pressure, and manage several tasks concurrently.

This is a one-year contractual appointment. Contractual appointments at the IMF are renewable for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, pending incumbent’s performance, budget availability, and continuous business need.
