Mission and objectives
UNICEF SWZ organization mission TBD
Context
Since its inception in the mid-1990s, the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys programme, known as MICS, has become the largest source of statistically sound and internally comparable data on children and women worldwide. In dozens of countries, trained fieldwork teams conduct face-to-face interviews with household members on a variety of topics – focusing mainly on those issues that directly affect their lives of children and women. MICS is an integral part of the plans and policies of many governments around the world, and a major data source for 40 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Eswatini, MICS has been implemented in six iterations, the last two being in 2014 and 2021-2022. The UNICEF Country Office has started the development of its new Country Programme, which will guide the organization’s efforts in the country based on the latest available evidence. This process requires a robust data analysis exercise that will inform the country’s situation analysis, bottleneck analysis, and causality analysis, to name a few, which are critical to ensure that the country programme is responsive to the most pressing needs of children and adolescents in Eswatini. By developing a data visualization dashboard of the two latest MICS results, the country office will be better equipped to identify priority issues and trends that require more attention and effort.
Task Description
The UNICEF Country Office in the Kingdom of Eswatini requires the expertise of an online volunteer to develop a data visualization dashboard of the Multiple-Indicator Cluster Surveys for Eswatini, specifically those done in 2021-2022 and 2014. The dashboard must be developed in Excel and use the available MICS 2014 and 2021-2022 databases, and GIS data for the 2021-2022 iteration. The dashboard should allow users to select multiple indicators and variables, including between iterations (2014 and 2021-2022), graph the results, provide a map using GIS data from the 2021-22 iteration, and produce a printable layout of the results. The dashboard will support the country office to provide the public with a manageable data visualization solution for the latest MICS, which will support ongoing internal and external data analysis efforts to inform policies and programmes Under the supervision of the Chief youth and Adolescent Development, the online volunteer is expected to support the following tasks: · Produce a data visualization tool in Excel using the 2021-2022 and 2014 MICS datasets for Eswatini. The dashboard should include all MICS indicators and disaggregation, should allow users to select multiple indicators and variables between iterations (2014 and 2021-2022) to produce clear and modifiable graphs, and should produce printable versions of the results. Use GIS data to create maps for the 2021-2022 MICS iteration. · Train the Country Office staff in the use of the dashboard.
