The Development Operations team supports our fundraising teams with gift processing, data management and analytics. We balance attention to detail with helping to solve big-picture problems, while always striving for process improvement.

The Position

The Database Officer will execute complex data requests, in support of fundraising teams. They will support the Mass Market Engagement, Corporations & Foundations (CFT), High Impact Philanthropy (HIP), and Mid-Level Donor (ML) fundraising teams by ensuring accurate and up-to-date constituent data in Mercy Corps’ donor database of record, The Raiser’s Edge (RE). They will be a skillful database user who can troubleshoot, investigate, solve issues, and optimize donor data of all types.

Essential Responsibilities

RAISER’S EDGE DATABASE MANAGEMENT

  • Manages regular data file exchanges with multiple external vendors and oversees the shared understanding of Mercy Corps’ data fields across all agencies/vendors.
  • Produces queries, exports and ad hoc reports that detail and analyze the performance of marketing and fundraising efforts by all fundraising teams as requested. Coordinate with BI Developer, Director of Fundraising Data, Database Manager, and Online Database Manager on various reporting requests and needs.
  • Updates and maintains documentation for data exchange processes with vendor agencies, and all other database management processes as needed.
  • Manages and delivers ad hoc database query and export requests for internal clients during emergency fundraising moments and for other one-off campaigns and events.
  • Liaises with IT and/or vendors to troubleshoot performance issues, technical errors, and any other product-related database questions.
  • Partners with the Database Manager and external vendors to design and implement database and systems transitions to achieve a streamlined and coherent workflow.
  • Acts as back-up and supports the Database Manager in all direct mail mailing list processes.

RAISER’S EDGE DATABASE SUPPORT

  • For the Corporations & Foundations team:

Support gift officer donor portfolios and pipelines by updating fields in RE using query, import, export, and global changes.

Devise a comprehensive process flow for entering RE Actions for gift officers.

Oversee ongoing updates of key donor record fields to ensure accuracy and optimized reporting.

Lead reorganization process to improve and clarify donor relationships records.

Audit and update donor contacts on a designated cadence.

Produce regular analysis on donor retention rates and other revenue-related metrics.

Develop and manage regular gift audits for crediting and proposal linking.

  • For the High-Impact Philanthropy team:

Maintain gift officer donor portfolios and pipelines as requested.

Enter data daily and weekly to reflect relationships and contact information.

Prepare data imports for events, mass mailings, etc.

Develop and manage regular gift audits for crediting and proposal linking.

  • For the Mid-Level Donor team:

Manage gift officer donor portfolios and pipeline, including coding of qualifying ML donors into correct tiers and portfolios and removal of lapsed donors.

Upload actions and/or results of gift officer mass communications (including annual survey results) into donor profiles.

Add ML donor philanthropic interests to donor profiles, by examining funds supported, survey responses, and direct conversations with Mercy Corps representatives.

Develop and improve process flows and documentation related to these workstreams.

Create data exports and contact lists for audience outreach campaigns.

Work collaboratively with the Director of Mid-Level Giving to update and maintain KPI metrics.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or transferable work experience and skills.
  • Previous experience in non-profits for at least one year.
  • At least 2+ years’ experience with Raiser’s Edge or other donor database.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Proven ability to originate, maintain and audit records.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to interface will various levels of employees.
  • Solid Microsoft Office Suite skills, including high comfort level in Excel; high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow precise multi-step procedures, prioritize multiple complex tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, relationship building, teamwork, flexibility and grace under pressure.

The successful candidate will be dedicated, thorough and focused, with the proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with an ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and be accountable for results. They will be interested in fundraising, the mission of Mercy Corps, and the contribution that this role makes to the success of the Mercy Corps and its fundraising. They will have a strong commitment to teamwork and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with team members of varied work styles and have demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving. The ability to understand the larger picture while remaining focused on the details, an even temperament and a good sense of humor will be appreciated and awareness of and sensitivity to multi-cultural international development work will be essential.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

This position may be based in Portland, Oregon, or Washington DC, at Mercy Corps’ US Headquarters, or remotely within approved US states.
