Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP)/Community Resilience Team Lead, Jamaica
ACDI/VOCA is seeking a DCOP/Community Resilience Team Lead for an upcoming Increasing Resilience of Island Economies activity in Jamaica funded by USAID. The anticipated program will strengthen communities, key economic sectors and Jamaica’s enabling environment to prepare for climate change and disasters.
The DCOP/Community Resilience Team Lead will provide strategic technical direction and implementation oversight. They will assist the Chief of Party in all aspects of program management and maintain relationships with local government and USAID as well as lead technical implementation related to Community Resilience. The program is anticipated to start in 2025 and this position will be based in Jamaica.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, implementation oversight, and day-to-day quality control of deliverables; provide leadership in design of the Activity’s systemic, inclusive, and facilitative implementation approach
- Support the Chief of Party in providing leadership management and community resilience technical direction of the program, ensuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and a focus on achieving the results defined in the contract
- Lead efforts to engage with local communities and key implementing actors, fostering resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change and disasters
- Work with key economic sectors to develop and implement strategies that enhance resilience and sustainability
- Design and deliver training programs to build local capacity in disaster preparedness and climate adaptation
- Ensure all relevant parties implement interventions as per the activity’s design, objectives, and workplans as well as the technical specifications for each grant activity, identifying technical assistance and resource needs for grantees
- Promote a culture of innovation and learning with an emphasis on systems approaches to addressing root causes of issues
- Support the overall knowledge management process, contributing to quarterly reports and the monitoring and evaluation of program activities
- Work collaboratively with the Activity’s senior leadership, grantees, and partners to mainstream gender and social inclusion in the design and implementation of interventions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, international development, disaster management or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in international experience, with a focus on climate resilience and disaster preparedness.
- Proven ability to manage a diverse team of professionals and coordinate with program partners, local communities, and other stakeholders.
- In-depth understanding of climate change impacts, disaster risk reduction, and resilience building strategies.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with USAID rules and regulations preferred.
- Experience working in Jamaica required.
- Fluency in English is required.
