JOB PURPOSE
This role is a unique opportunity to increase Amnesty’s impact by leading our Portfolio Management Office (PMO), linking strategic planning to implementation. The role will revitalise and systematise our PMO to ensure we are aligning Amnesty’s operational work to the Global Strategic Framework (2022 – 2030). The scope of the role is global and will collaborate closely with the national, regional, and global levels of the organisation. This role reports to the Programme Director for the Global Strategy and Impact Programme.
The role is on the interface between organisational development – strategy development – planning – and portfolio management. Key pieces of work include managing our PMO and enhancing our approaches to our portfolio management, developing together with colleagues long and short-term goals, and workable action plans. They will collaborate with colleagues to assess Amnesty’s strategy implementation and identify areas for improvement from a PMO and Organisational Development perspective. They will contribute to researching trends and conducting benchmarking with other organisations, to help improve Amnesty’s movement-wide planning process and approaches across regions and functions.
ABOUT YOU
You will be familiar with agile project management approaches that can also be applied when working in hostile environments, and possess a demonstrated ability to think strategically, as well as excellent political judgement and problem analysis skills. You will be committed to human rights and the work that Amnesty International does, with an understanding of the drivers and challenges for affecting human rights change.
Fluency in English is essential, fluency in French, Spanish or other languages is an asset.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for Amnesty’s Portfolio Management Office, including managing data analysts.
- Establish a standardized approach for our PMO.
- Ensure the interface between the PMO, finance, fundraising and other key functions in the International Secretariat is well established and the link between the different functions and overall planning and monitoring and evaluation is clear.
- Embed reflection, strategy adaptation, and results-based review as a core way of working across Amnesty’s portfolio.
- Identify and leverage opportunities to shape and improve Amnesty’s planning and project management.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in impact-oriented planning and organisational development.
- Extensive experience in working with and/ or managing a PMO, improving projects and programmes of work, linking initiatives to action plans and the Global Strategic Framework
- Extensive experience in organisational development and actionable strategies on national, regional, global level, in collaborating within a multi-location, multi-stakeholder context.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required, French, Spanish or other languages are an asset.
