JOB PURPOSE
The main purpose of your role is to provide high level and strategic advice to the Regional Director for East and Southeast Asia & Pacific on major human rights trends, developments, and key drivers of human rights violations in the region as well as managing (research) staff and oversee effective management of budgetary resources.
ABOUT YOU
As a Deputy Regional Director of research, you will have demonstrated knowledge and direct experience of human rights, and political context in the region with the ability to represent Amnesty International in difficult and high-profile environments. You will be fluent in English and at least one additional language.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set, monitor, manage and report on budget and expenditure for the work undertaken by their team.
- Responsible for the quality of regional office research and advocacy outputs
- Ensure that the team report with sufficient clarity and detail on the impact of their work, including to funders.
- Lead and/or manage the regional office’s field work in order to ensure that political, strategic, technical and security concerns are reviewed and adequately mitigated.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with AI’s entities in order to identify and exploit (research) opportunities for co-operation, information-sharing and problem solving.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Ability to design and implement effective systems for tracking schedules, work plans, and priorities for top level management.
- Knowledge and experience of field security issues and the ability to manage them appropriately, ideally gained through work in conflict or other high-risk situations.
- Experience of working in a key leadership role in a complex organization ideally based outside the organization’s global “head” office and preferably with experience of matrix managing a cross-functional and multi-cultural team.
- Written and verbal fluency in English is essential and must be demonstrated at interview and through publications or other written materials. Fluency in one or more language(s) (preferably from the region) is desirable.
