Development & Outreach Division Intern

Paris, Paris, France

Development & Outreach Division

Application Deadline: 20 December 2024

Internship Description: The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is currently seeking a student intern for its Paris office. Ideally, the intern will be available 20 hours per week, for 6 months, starting in January 2025.

Responsibilities The internship will primarily focus on assisting with the planning of Human Rights Watch’s Council Summit in the spring of 2025. The successful candidate will support the organizing and implementation of virtual events for the Summit, collaborating and facilitating tasks for the Donor Experience and Offers Team. Below are some examples of projects the intern may contribute to under close supervision of the Director of Council Summit and Outreach:

  • Collaborating and facilitating tasks related to regular Donor Experience and Offers meetings;
  • Supporting the creation of communication and promotional materials;
  • Conducting the downloading, filing and circulating of short video clips featuring HRW in the news; and
  • Other projects may be assigned as they arise and when they match the intern’s interests.

This internship is best suited for individuals interested in gaining experience within a small office of a large, well-organized, international non-profit organization. The intern will gain knowledge of the organization’s work to promote human rights globally and build skills in event planning, fundraising, and information tracking. In order to provide a valuable and well-rounded internship experience, interns may attend planning and department staff meetings and may have the opportunity to attend in-house trainings, briefings, special events relating to human rights, as well as network with other HRW interns, volunteers, and employees. As an HRW intern, students will take skills acquired in school and apply them in a professional setting.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate students pursuing a Master’s degree in Political Science, Management, Event Management, Communication, Law or any other similar field will be preferred;
  • Fluency or advanced skills in English are required; and
  • Well-organised, motivated and reliable candidates with a strong interest in human rights are strongly preferred.

Applicants who are offered an internship must possess valid work authorization in France for the duration of the internship.

Compensation: Interns will receive an allowance of 5.50 euros per hour of office attendance. Human Rights Watch will also reimburse 50% of the intern’s transportation costs. Students are often able to earn academic credit, as HRW internships can offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by HRW staff, and interaction with other international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials. Students should check with their educational institution for requirements.

How to Apply: Please apply immediately by visiting our online recruitment portal at https://careers.hrw.org and attaching a CV and cover letter (all documents in French). No calls or email enquiries, please. Only complete applications will be considered. Due to the large number of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
