We are a group of engineers building and operating web-based services to facilitate world-wide data and information exchange. We want to strengthen our DevOps capabilities to support various projects related to Python, Docker and cloud based API and web-development.
Under the overall guidance of the Head, Data and Information Management (H/DIM) Division, WMO Information System (WIS) Branch, Infrastructure Department, and the direct supervision of the Member Platform Lead, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Lead the development and operation of WDQMS, a Python, PostGIS and Kubernetes based monitoring system of meteorological observations, processing millions of records per day;
(b) Deploy, integrate with other WMO corporate systems and operate cloud based applications, such as for example Atlassian data-center tools, in Azure and AWS;
(c) Participate in R&D into designing server-less applications in AWS and Azure for the monitoring of WMO systems;
(d) Contribute to the maintenance of and work with data from the corporate data-warehouse;
(e) Draft technical documents, analytical studies and documentation on issues related to systems supported by the Member platform;
(f) Prepare input for presentations by senior staff by fusing data from WMO systems;
(g) Attends international, regional, and national meetings for consultations with stakeholders and experts involved with the development and user requirements of systems supported by the Member Platform;
(h) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering or a closely related field. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in conjunction with relevant work experience may be accepted. |

Experience A minimum of five years of experience in DevOps engineering in the context of complex applications like those forming the Member platform. |

Other requirements Excellent analytical skills. DevOps experience. Fluency in Python. PostGIS, Docker and Kubernetes experience. Knowledge of web technology and cloud platforms (APIs, OAuth, AWS, MS Azure) will be an advantage. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
The Secretary-General may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.

Annual post adjustment on initial salary is: US$ 52515 (in addition to the net base salary) | |
