1. Organizational Context
a. Organizational Setting
The post is located in the News and Media Division in the Sector of the Director General. The News and Media Division is responsible for overseeing the Organization’s social-media content production and distribution activities, as well as press and media-related outreach. The Division produces and shares across a proliferating array of platforms engaging content to promote awareness and understanding of intellectual property (IP) as a driver of economic, cultural and social development, and how WIPO supports this.
b. Purpose Statement
The Digital Communications Officer provides expertise in all areas of WIPO’s online communications, with particular responsibility for contributing to the development and implementation of social media strategies in support of WIPO’s communication goals, and managing WIPO’s official social media presences.
c. Reporting Lines
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Senior Digital Communications Officer.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
a. Manage WIPO’s centralized social media presences, including Organization-wide coordinating and creating of content; managing community interactions to promote engagement and ensure reputational risk mitigation; monitoring the conversation about WIPO and IP on social media; compiling and analyzing metrics; and preparing related reports.
b. Oversee the development, execution and optimization of organic and promoted social media campaigns.
c. As focal point for all decentralized social media presences, develop strategies for new social media accounts, oversee their implementation and transition to operations; and ensure training and ongoing quality control.
d. Represent the WIPO social media team in internal and external meetings, working groups, task forces and other fora to coordinate communication campaigns, share knowledge on social media communications; and foster partnerships with digital communications focal points in other stakeholder organizations.
e. Contribute to formulating policy recommendations on the development of, and long-term strategy for, social media communications in support of WIPO’s communication and stakeholder engagement goals; evaluate and provide advice on appropriate social media tools, platforms and strategies to strengthen engagement with target audiences.
f. Perform other related duties, as required.
3. Requirements
Education (Essential)
First-level university degree in communications, international relations, digital marketing, or other relevant fields such as social sciences or humanities.
Experience (Essential)
At least six years of professional experience in corporate communications, preferably in an international setting, with a focus on planning and delivering digital communications, including social media campaigns, in support of organizational goals.
Experience in and evidence of writing and editing content for online platforms.
Experience in using corporate social media management applications and analytics.
Language (Essential)
Excellent spoken and written knowledge of English and good knowledge of French.
Language (Desirable)
One other official UN language.

Mobility: WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities, office or duty station of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions and/or to another duty station.
Annual salary:
Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment. Please note that this estimate is for information only. The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice. The figures quoted below are based on the July 2023 rate of 89.2%

Additional Information
* Initial fixed-term appointment of two years, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and other applicable conditions. The selected candidate’s appointment will be subject to an overall term of five years in this position, with no possibility of renewal beyond that term. S/he may, however, apply and be considered for other positions at WIPO.
This is not applicable to WIPO staff members on fixed-term, continuing or permanent appointments, who were recruited following a competition under Staff Regulation 4.10 (“Appointment Boards”).
